I know, I know, you're not supposed to live your life any differently in an age of terrorism

That said, here's a tip. When traveling overseas as a yank, don't hang out with all the other western tourists. Don't go to the "tourist discos". Don't eat in the "tourist restaurants". Don't stay in the "tourist hotels". Don't wear your New York Giants jersey.

Got it?

Meanwhile, who wakes up in the morning and says to themselves - "hey, what a great day - I get to go kill innocent women and children!"

Religion when taken to the extreme can be a mental disease.

Sounds like another false flag terrorist attack.

Seriously, you all need to learn about the strategy of tension with specific examples in recent history being Operation Gladio in Italy which was exposed as a NATO operation pulling off false flag attacks in Europe.

There are many others in recent history. Operation Northwoods, the Gulf of Tonkin, USS Liberty etc etc...

Many of course believe that 9/11 was another such false flag attack providing for the pretext for the endless "global war on terror" and expansion of the national security state and the military adventures into Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Neocon think tank "The Project for the New American Century" openly stated that they would need a "catalyzing, catastrophic event like a New Pearl Harbor" to achieve their goals all described in "Rebuilding America's Defenses" which calls for "Full Spectrum Global Dominance".

So before we go assuming that it was simply islamic extremists at least understand that there are deeper forces at work here. Isn't it strange how terrorist attacks so conveniently become excuses for the US military to move into sovereign nations and take them over?

So it's important to understand that false flag attacks have been used throughout history to justify the expansion of empires.

And who are the greater terrorists? The US military in Iraq which is responsible for over 1 million civilian deaths and the complete destruction and desecration of a nation or this group of thugs that killed a few random civilians?

Perspective please.

LOL. Don't worry, I've been traveling for years. Haven't had an vindaloo, but the Dahl is great.

Religion when taken to the extreme can be a mental disease.

Let me both simplify this and improve it's accuracy.

Religion is a mental disease.

Now, it can be merely harmless and eccentric (like early-stage Alzheimers), or it can be terrifying and harmful (like full-blown psychopathy).

But in any case, choosing to believe in implausible sky fairies who command you to do irrational (and often immoral) things -- despite a complete lack of evidence of the existence of said sky fairies and a ream of evidence demonstrating the implausibility of said sky fairies -- is a form of chosen mental illness.

Now, I know it's not popular. Pointing out the fact that religious/"spiritual" belief is a pure fallacy is as unpopular as noting that housing was in a bubble in 2005.

It doesn't change the fact, however, that it's true.

Keith,

The BBC says Hindu extremists were among the arrested. Nutters are nutters whatever religion they subscribe to.

The terrorists have been extremely active today, they've been bombing Afghanistan as well, and I fear it will lead into tomorrow.

I see a lot of you guys trying to diminish the severity of what has happened, what continues to go on here.

This was an extremely well-organized and powerful attack that has locked down several of their important hotels and landmarks in their greatest city.

Hundreds have already died, more are hostages. Many of them British and American civilians at that.

And oh whats this? The FBI is issuing a warning about the New York mass transit system. You think they did that just because they wanted too? Do you not see the link here?

Hey George L, you think that atrocities diminish the more of them there are, what the hell?

Innocent people are dying. Your kinsmen are being targeted. You feel nothing at all?

Great! One last chance for the people in Washington to take away some of our rights before Bush leaves office.

And for the record, I miss "Bombay". Like I miss the Houston Oilers. And Czechoslovakia.

Meanwhile, I was thinking of going to Turkey soon. Not so sure now that some idiots have the bright idea to pick off yanks. Anyone been there?

And isn't it odd that we didn't have terrorism warnings right before the election? This kind of sh*t would have been a godsend for McCain. Gotta make them afraid if they're going to vote GOP.

so terrorism wins out why even bother to leave your house maybe the free world needs to get the attention of these cowards but hey that would be asking a little to much right one day these clowns will do something more than knock a few buildings down or throw a few grenades and then the rules will have changed and we will reorganize the world atlas but until that time lets just wish we could all just get along and wear a taliban jersey thanks for the rules keith and to all you obama supporters the show starts jan 20th

Sorry to offend Indian's sentiments. But having had several terror attacks for the last 10 years or more, there is casualness in this part of the world.

It appears that these terror elements came by boat and intelligence agencies, Navy etc. (sleeping like Greenspan and Bernanke) could not spot them and were taken in by surprise.

Actually it's very popular and trendy, If you want to be unpopular try defend the truth. Like there is no homosexual gene or Darwins theory is just that a THEORY even though it is tought in schools as fact..If that doesn't get you univited from parties try try calling (right to choose) by it's unpoliticaly correct name Murder of unborn babies .

You are disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. People are human beings. They have a mother, a father, children, close relatives, friends and people who need them and vice versa.

According to the BBC so far here are the casualties: "Police say 14 police officers, 81 Indian nationals and six foreigners have been killed".

As a police officer here in the States, my heart goes out to the brave police officers and the specialized units that go into harms way.

All of science is just a theory, why does that matter???

You do know what the word theory means in the context of science, right?

Anonymous said...

"..."Police say 14 police officers, 81 Indian nationals and six foreigners have been killed"..."

6% = "Many of them British and American civilians"...

Even better: A President-elect months from taking office is not only connected to this, but responsible for the economic disaster many years in the making now.

Politics is a mental disease; witness the abundant evidence right here.

See Haifa Sofia, the blue mosque, and the byzantine cisterns, and the grand bazzar.. The hippodrome not so exciting.
Was only there for a day. And the grand bizzar closes on Sunday.

As an Indian national (I am a student at MIT), let me provide a perspective from my side. India has seen an increase in terrorism in the past ten years. Muslims main complaint is that India doesn't provide the same opportunities it does to Hindus. India is almost 80% Hindu and 12% Muslim. Everytime a terrorist attack occurs, Hindus will destroy the shops, burn down the homes of Muslims. Now, most of these Muslims are innocent, they are just the punching bag used to vent out the frustration/anger from Hindus against Muslims. But that is what happens. Thus, now they too will become bitter, upset, angry and future terrorists. This is a bad vicious cycle. The terrorists are wrong for killing innocent people but the retaliation and revenge that occurs against Muslims after such an event is wrong too. So one cycle will feed upon the other and this will go on and on. It is a sad day for India. I surmise that this will only get worse.

Man, I got my own problems to worry about. I have a hard enough time caring about someone who cuts me off in traffic, why should I care about people dying overseas I don't know? Let me know when this is going to start affecting me personally(More than just gas prices) and I'll give a crap.

Reichstag Fire potential here could quickly domino to affect the NATO mission in Afghanistan:

Election coming in India, govt will have to blame Pakistan or lose power.

US will back India to avoid nuclear standoff (or exploit nuclear standoff) like last time, demanding hardline Pakistani reprisals in pashtun tribal areas.

Pakistan becomes more unstable with unpopular government ruling from capital and radical elements in regions.

Eternal war further justified, etc. etc.

The Muslims wonder why they are so hated . It's plain chicken-shit to blow up innocent people . Who feels very easy about the Muslim population growing ,if you were being honest . Some American Muslims
have told me that a high percent of the Muslims are nuts and out to take over ,no matter what they try to tell you that most aren't extreme . Talk about a ethnic group getting brain washed all the time . The Muslim religion is dangerous to other religions or groups . As long as these people
feel that Religion has given them the right to kill innocent people
they will be a menace to any society .
Its also dangerous to have any Country think that they deserve to
kill people that don't believe the same .

Anonymous said...

it's very popular and trendy

Au contraire.

More people believe that a 2000 year old Jewish zombie rose from the dead to forgive us for the actions of a rib woman who ate a magical apple from a tree than believe in the gradual genetic mutations leading to species evolution.

A lack of belief in such fairy tales is not "trendy" -- in fact, it induces paroxysms of rage like the one you just spat out.

The deluded lash out viciously when you "steal" their "god" from them by pointing out that it's all bullshit, the universe doesn't really care about them, and once they're dead they'll just be a bag of bones in a casket somewhere.

Anonymous said...

ozman, can you provide a link.
Stop lying. This was done by Islamic (Religion of peace) extremists.

Anonymous said...

Whoever claimed be of Indian origin to wrote a bunch of lies is surely a Pakistani Muslim. Pakistan has been the epicenter of terrorism all along. Pakistan was formed in 1947 out of British India, because Muslims in India wanted a separate Islamic homeland. They created riots all over the country for a demand of a separate islamic state. All Hindus are kicked out of Pakistan. But Muslims in independent secular India stayed back. It is open to the world where Bin Laden lives. Obama should keep his promise of catching that scum.

Anonymous said...

There's more to this attack than plain religion (Hindu vs Muslim, Christian vs Muslin, etc).

When Obama was elected, it had taken something away from the terrorists. And was that of racism and class distinctions between peoples of a nation. For years, extremists group have been calling the USA, a front for the KKK-Christian crusade which translates to "some Christians (white ones) were more equal than others" (see South Asians, Sudanese Arabs, Africans, etc) but then, the US elected a half-Black/half-White (see the racial composition of places like India, half-Dravidian/half-Aryan) President. Now, all the extremists have left is an empty hate. A dark person is now the leader of their most despised enemy and what's worse is that he's a son of a Kenyan Muslim. That's a huge blow to the terrorists agenda of splitting the US into a dark vs white hypocritical society.

We won! And the terrorists lost! This is them going out with a final act of rage because essentially, India's outgrown its days of Imperial subjugation. And when I say Imperial, I also include the Moghul/Turkmen Islamic state, in addition to the British Empire. India's now becoming another emerging industrial secular nation on a similar but perhaps slower trajectory as a Korea or a China. They take orders from neither a Viceroy nor an Emir/Sheik.

It's not religion. It's war. We send fighters overseas to drop some bombs on people to show em who's boss while we get ready to go shopping or maybe watch some TV. If the bombs kill some foreign womene and children, we don't care, we just flip the channel and watch some Seinfeld reruns.

They don't have fighter jets. So they seek out our people on vacation, staying at fancy hotels, using their dollars no doubt gained through some marginally legal activity and they shoot them.

Someone explain to me the difference and why the "terrorists" aren't justified.

Anonymous said...

"You get uninvited because you're an idiot. How often do you try to disprove the theory of gravity?"

Um Jim, I hate to tell you this, but science currently has no consistent theory for gravity.

People who claim superior knowledge and use "science" as a shield are usually insecure twerps. Science can explain a lot in this world, but it doesn't explain everything. Most people learn this by the time they're twenty years old.

I am an Indian Muslim who is now a US citizen. I loved India when I grew up and went to college there, still do and have family out there that I visit once in awhile.
But the emergence of the Hindu right-wing and their radical stances over the past couple of decades has led to a proportional increase in the insecurities of the minorities in India, especially Muslims and Christians. The Muslim population of India although percentage wise not much is huge when you look at raw numbers, more than 150M ( half the US population) and they are not going to sit quietly when the Hindu mobs threaten and loot their business and homes and rape their women. A close proximity to Pakistan provides succor and determination to the disgruntled youth to get "even". And that is when you see incidents like these happen.

Btw, these hindu extremists have targeted churches all across India a few weeks back, raping nuns and lynching any convert to Christianity under the silly pretext of some missionaries indulging in propagation of Christianity. Can we even imagine such things happening in the USA where hindu temples are being vandalized without any uproar ?

Although Indian laws are officially non-discriminatory, there is almost a silent & implied acceptance among wide sections of Hindus and increasing at an alarming rate that Muslims need to be targeted, harassed & troubled for the flimsiest of reasons. Add widespread corruption to the mix and you have an India that is like a powderkeg waiting to explode...

I love the USA and now realize how I was taken for granted in India ! Here I am treated as a human being and on equal terms even though I have a different skin color & speak with a slight accent.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

--"I love the USA and now realize how I was taken for granted in India ! Here I am treated as a human being and on equal terms"

Well, on the whole USA bit, I agree. I mean let's face it, descendants of Turks & Armenians or Serbs & Croats, live in peace within the US. That's practically unheard of in the Balkans vis-a-vis near east with its renewing ethnic cleansings.

But for India, it's a different story. That nation has never been fully independent and united since ancient times (Ashoka's empire). There were a series of foreign dynasties: the Bactrians, the Kushans, the Moghuls, and finally, the British up until '47. Yes, we all know of Akbar and that one time great stewardship but in reality, that was more an enlightened Turkmen, trying to unite his base more than anything else.

Many Indians still call themselves Indo-Aryans. The last I'd checked, Aryans were the ancient Persians (of Cyrus and even earlier, check out the phrase, "Shah of the Aryans", that's the Emperor's actual title). India is a mix of Aryans & Dravidians, the word Aryan simply implies a need to be `white` despite all Sanskrit scholars trying to make a case that it represents a Hindu ideal.

So the point of the above is that the nation is emerging from many centuries of imperialism of various caucasian ethnicities and it trying to find a united identity. Unfortunately, during these shifting times, certain extremists can get a 'pat on the band' for making statements like mistreating a Muslim person as a way of getting back at Pakistan for Kashmir, etc.

Anonymous said...

:Many Indians still call themselves Indo-Aryans

It's neither Zimbabwe, Tanzania, nor some other former British East African colony. That's where there's some serious political angst between whites and Africans.

The color hierarchy among Indians is more a Bollywood type of skin whitening inferiority complex which is a sort of wannabe Mediterranean ideal, think of an attractive Greek couple, than a stay over from the British times. So yes, it doesn't help that Bollywood is trying to lighten up the masses but at the same time, being light in India is also a way of being excluded from the mainstream which is most definitely brown.

In response to the poster above who said he is an Indian Muslim but now a US citizen, here is my response. Note that I have reproduced his comments entirely but with two changes: Wherever he had the word Muslim, I substituted the word Hindu and wherever he had the word Majority, i substituted the word Minority. Let's see how it reads now and i'll add my comments in the end:

I am an Indian Hindu who is now a US citizen. I loved India when I grew up and went to college there, still do and have family out there that I visit once in awhile.
But the emergence of the Muslim right-wing and their radical stances over the past couple of decades has led to a proportional increase in the insecurities of the majorities in India, especially Hindus and Christians. The Hindu population of India although percentage wise not much is huge when you compare to worldwide Muslim population numbers ( less than half the world wide Muslims) they are not going to sit quietly when the Muslim mobs threaten and loot their business and homes and rape their women. A close proximity to Pakistan provides succor and determination to the disgruntled youth to get "even". And that is when you see incidents like these happen.

Btw, these Muslim extremists have targeted temples all across India a few weeks back, raping women and lynching any convert under the silly pretext of some missionaries indulging in propagation of Christianity. My comments:
Dear friend, notice how the same grievance you hold is something that any other person can hold for any reason. But that does not give you moral authority to justify killing people. If you have any grievances with India, please write or debate against India in any forum of your choice. But don't condone killing. Think about it!
Thanks!
