"Gordon Brown is like an arsonist posing as a firefighter" - Lord Lamont of Lerwick, former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer

Man, if that doesn't just sum it up perfectly.

Now we'll start to hear the clamor for Gordon Brown's resignation. Perhaps even a no-confidence vote by his own party. Failing that, given the crashing pound and soaring unemployment, I think we're days away from Brits taking to the streets.

Bottom line? Gordon Brown was 100% responsible for getting Britain into this mess. And now he's pretending that he can get it out of it.

He lit the fire, it's burning out of control, and now he's grabbing a hose.

Arsonist. Firefighter.

And on his way out.

The problem is that the hose shoots out gasoline, not water.

Keith, you may wander about with this blog and carry it with you wherever you feel like--the UK, Australia, Greece, Iceland, etc..., but the origin of all the problems now engulfing America and the world lies with one monkey: GW Bush!

I am not going to let go of that monkey as long as I live. He (or it) was the single most incompetent monkey in the history of the apes. That creature drove America and the world to the abyss. He must be held accountable for the crimes he committed. Until Obama and the Democrats understand this, there's no way America will reclaim its once-pristine image and stature in the world.

Just like HP did so prematurely, another blog, a Bush watchdog this time (Bushflash.com) is closing down. The blogger, Eric Blumrich, mistakenly thought that Bush's misdeeds have come to an end as he was shown the door!

The housing disaster is still going full speed, even after HP closed shop (with Keith wrongly thinking the crisis was over). As Bushflash is calling it quit, Bush's crimes are just beginning to creep up after he left the "Awful Office," and some of the federal employees are coming forward. They are no longer scared of Bush's henchmen.

So let's call on all those honest Bush aides (they do exist) to come in the open and disclose whatever wrongs Bush and his cronies ordered them to do.

The nation needs to heal. The problems facing America today are too serious to be swept under the rug.

And you can add Mr. Brown's selling much of England's stock of gold at the absolute lowest price in twenty-five years (when he was exchequer, back in 2001) to his list of accomplishments.

This man is a true danger to your society.

He sold a lot of Britain's gold at the very bottom. Somewhere, somebody who appreciates real money made out like a bandit

Went2puke,

I shut down HP because I wanted to talk about more than housing, we had too many angry realtors mucking up the place, and I also want to talk about solutions. But I shut it down knowing the panic and problems were years away from ending.

On Bush, I agree - the crimes and misdeeds and missteps will take years and years and years to uncover. And the impact of his disastrous presidency will be felt for generations, if not for the rest of human history.

I won't be letting up. Even though the fox-news crowd hates it. Justice has no timeframe.

He did this intentionally.

Oh Bull. NO one put a gun to your head or anybody's head and told you to buy a damn house.

Sure Bush was part of the problem but blaming him for everything is just plain stupid! The truth of the matter is the world is full of monkeys and your one of them!

Keefer,

You really think one man is responsible for all the stupid financial decisions made by the masses.

Do ya think removing one man will solve anything?

Keith,

Concerning your Gold poll, for all you do there are still 122 clueless peoples on this board. They do not understand just how screwed we are. Peoples, please get it.

We are at Empire collapse and it will not take 4 years for Gold to hit 10,000, it will happen in 2009, as the USD crashes and burns.

Remember, you heard it first on Soot and Ashes.

Joe,
Did you just buy a bunch of Gold at like $900 an oz.?

Buying gold now is like buying a McMansion circa 2005

Please explain the fundamentals of what gives this particular yellow stuff its value.

In a modern world it is practically useless

Even if fiat currency collapses it won’t be a useless yellow metal that will give ya purchasing power.

Sorry, no way. Bush is a stupid loser who still doesn't understand what happened.

Let's not lose sight of the one person who is by FAR the most responsible for this global mess: Alan Greenspan. We need a Nuremberg-style trial to put him in prison for the rest of his miserable life. We need a world-wide holiday, like Guy Fawkes day, where Alan Greenspan is hanged in effigy. His name must become a reviled household word in every language on earth and chanted by angry mobs the world over.

Sure, there were a lot of other dishonest or incompetent bankers, CEOs, realtors, lenders, appraisers, politicians, bureaucrats, and homebuyers who contributed to this mess. But those types have always existed and always will.

The greatest economic disaster of all time would not have been possible without the greatest credit bubble of all time, and Alan Greenspan is the one man whose unparalleled combination of power, incompetence, and unfounded self-confidence could make it happen.

Just as the first name Adolf died out in Germany after WWII, so should the name Alan die out in the US. Just as the last name Quisling entered the English language to denote a traitor, so should the name Greenspan become a synonym for destructive incompetence.

Don't let him quietly fade away and be forgotten. Make sure everyone you know knows who to blame.

Today's coordinated job cuts by large American corporations seemed very planned/timed in sinc with Obama's speach on the need for stimulus.

Seems a lot like the same bully tactic used by Paulson and Bush to get TARP passed, using terror of stock market declines to get their way.

But isn't that the function of the Illuminati? Posing as Messiah, while looting the country. You've been gamed.

Wake up, sheeple. The origin of all this comes from the New World Order plan and its global elite, which includes thew UK, The EU, and the military industrial complex. You know, the same one that Obama is pumping with his appointee/war monger lobbyist/Raytheon executive to run the Pentagon.

It's so simple to blame all on GWB for the mediocre mind.

Hey Keith, I hope you got short-term lease:

London -- Homeowners who let out their properties last year rather than sell them for a cut price are being forced to reduce rents or risk losing their tenants as the market rapidly sours.

Letting agents saw a rush of so-called “accidental landlords” into the market last year, as falling house prices convinced property vendors to delay their sales. But the sheer volume of properties that have become available to potential tenants in recent months has brought stiff competition for landlords and put pressure on rents.

At the same time, corporate demand has dried up as fewer businesses bring new employees into the UK, and growing redundancies mean more tenants are trying to find cheaper properties.

Many landlords have had to slash rents by around 20 per cent, according to agents. In the most oversupplied parts of London, falls in rental income have been as sharp as 30 per cent.

Some landlords are being left with empty properties as tenants move out to find better properties for the same price elsewhere.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (Rhode Island) delivered a fiery speech in which he called for holding the Bush Admin accountable for what happened in the last 8 yrs. Things are also moving towards holding hearings that may lead to a full scale investigation. If that happens, expect that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Greenspan, Paulson, and so many other criminals and swindlers, incompetent regulators and complacent lawmakers and law enforcers, including Democrats like Pelosi, Frank, and Dodd, will be frog-marched to where they should be kept for the rest of their life...

Speaking as a former firefighter...

Strangely enough - many arsonists turn out to be firefighters. Two different sides of the same coin of "watching shit burn".

A good number of firefighters are kind of functional firebugs. We get the same kick out of it, but never cross that line.

The UK is finished for a number of reasons, including its humongous housing bubble which dwarfs America's. The UK is the originator of all of those house flipping shows that we see in the U.S. They have far more of them and they are only 1/5the size of the U.S.!! They are completely screwed and will be bankrupt soon. I read the The Mail newspaper periodically and it is clear that the UK is heading for insolvency very quickly...it may need to go to the IMF to get bailed out...again, like it did some years ago.

But the most distressing things about the UK are its NAZI-like tracking and surveillance society and its amazingly anti-male culture. Anyone who has paid a passing interest in what is going on in the UK under the Socialists will know that the country has become a fascist society bent on complete government control of its population. It has also become a feminist culture where men are publically denigrated, humiliated, and spat upon by women, feminists, the media, and government ministries. No wonder why males do not get married there anymore. The birth rate for whites has gone down dramatically and there are more single women there than any other place in the world. And it's all because of the Socialists and Feminists who have destroyed a once great country.

There is no hope for the UK. Everything you see there now that appears normal is just widow dressing to the reality of the despotic and anti-male government that has been set up there.

Any UK male that can get out of there and come to the US should do so as quickly as possible before it's too late. And it will get there sometime in the not too distant future, for sure.

R.I.P the UK.

No no, don't come here. Go to France, Spain, or Australia. Stay away from the Americas, you wouldn't like it here, and we aren't sophisticated enough. No more Europeans and Russians in America, stay there!
