The current stimulus bill is meaningless. It's all about entitlements. But nobody cares.

The majority of Obama supporters don't agree with you. They think everything is going to get better, now. They think the stimulation will have a lasting effect. In my experience, stimulation DOES have an effect, but after the thrill, i need to take a nap. It will hardly be the lasting consumer consumption orgy the public hopes for.

Actually it looks like the US will get away with this again, because we screwed the rest of the world with our toxic debt. . .the dollar is king (who woulda thought) because the Euro, Pound and even my beloved Swiss France are all looking sick because the USA is less bad off than eveyone else (except maybe the Chinese - but the riots haven't started there yet). . .so. . .guess the rest of the world will still buy our T-Bills for a while longer. . .yes, eventually the house of cards might come down, but we will probably muddle along for another 30 years or so. BTW - my "bright idea" to buy the Mexican Peso was really stupid (ok my 2008 mistake). . .Mexico's government has already collapsed (they just don't know it yet), and Mexicans with any money are buying dollars like crazy. . .even buying crappy condos here in SD to preserve their money.

Ahmed has a good point. The EU and Britain is in a lot worse shape than the US. They to indulged in endless debt and bubble dreams.

It's only going to take a month to pass this $1 trillion stimulus bills. Congress can pay for the entitlements this way as well. Just pass a $1 tillion entitlement bill every month for 41 months.

Yes, I'd also seen this in certain American private liberal arts colleges but in general, those bookworms have actually some literary and reading comprehension skills.
Now, with the fall in their retirements, savings, and welfare state, Europeans, instead of seeing the errors of their ways are instead, beating up South Asians and other dark skinned foreigners visiting their countries.

Id be interested to know what part Social Security plays in that. Im not banking on it at all personally (Im 37), but in 20 years or so if the benefits are cut 1/3 1/2 3/4ths of what they are now then what are the numbers????? How do you even figure that out????? Im assuming the SS tax rate stays about the same

The US is not bankrupt. Our assets as a country far outweigh our debits. Besides, even without a ballanced budget the government has the power to eliminate countries that dont accept our currency.
You know, I voted for Obama, not because I thought he was a messiah, and frankly even a messiah can only give you spiritual insight, but because I wanted someone whose heart was in the right place when everything fell apart, and who was as smart as one could hope for under the coming circumstances.
The truth is, nothing is going to save us, only mitigate what happens.That's the best we can hope for, a softening of the hard blows, and an attempt at finding new paths to begin on.
