Worst than the Great Depression? Martial law in America? Wow, that's some heavy sh*t from Hank Paulson. Wonder if he really believed that.

Funny how quickly you can go from "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" to the threat of social breakdown and martial law.

Makes you realize the whole thing was a tinderbox, a house of cards with no firm foundation, managed by incompetent and corrupt monkeys.

Will it ever be normal again?

“Many of us were told in private conversations that if we voted against this bill on Monday that the sky would fall, the market would drop two or three thousand points the first day, another couple of thousand the second day, and a few members were even told that there would be martial law in America if we voted no.”

- Congressman Brad Sherman, October 2008

How we define normality will not stay the same. The down cycle will be so long that even a forgetful and impulsive society will have trouble forgetting what's to come, even though doing so would be less painful in the short term.
I admit that this is an optimistic forecast. The pessimistic version is that we have some other bubble or false recovery and then plunge even deeper into social and economic decay.
About Paulson,in some ways it doesn't matter whether he believed his own threats or not. If he did, it means he knew how bad things were and feared for his own well-being. If he didn't, he thought he was lying to get what he wanted.

It's called a "shake down" by these corporate criminals that have pulled off the biggest heist in US history.

The FEMA camps are ready and signed into law:

New Legislation Authorizes FEMA Camps

and the troops are being stationed domestically to keep anybody that doesn't want to be looted by Wall Street in check:

NorthCom Denies Troops To Be Used For Crowd Control

So those of you that think the "war on terror" is great and cool and think that laying waste to other nations is cool and "fighting for democracy" are about to get a little taste of that right here in your own backyard.

Don't forget to thank a marine for your freedom.

Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!

Only goes to show how gullible and stupid the politicos that voted FOR the first 'Bushco Bailout". In my neck of the woods the imbecilic dunces include:

Dianne Feinstein
Babs Boxer
Bela Lugosi Pelosi

Any questions?

It will come to this eventually anyway. More borrowing only delays the day of reconing anyway.

This has been reported on the blogs, of course, the only source of truth as compared to the right-wing corporate media. I've also heard it on the left-wing talkback radio programmes we download here.

Any word in the fascist propaganda organs, especially American TV news? Hell no! "Crazy conspiracy theories, that Paulson was threatening riots and martial law." That's what the Big Business media would say about it now.

Next year, it will be the accepted truth, just like the Downing Street memo is today. And the right-wing media will be saying "That's old news, that Paulson was saying 'Do what I want or there will be chaos.' Let's move on."

I used to be part of the media. But shit like that is why I won't shed a tear when it dies. Mass media, welcome to extinction. Blogs and downloadable audio/video -- the new organs of truth.

The only trouble is, my truth is not going to be the same as someone else's. We're going to build the new Tower of Babel, the ideological one...

It looks like they gamed the system knowing ahead of time the lender of last resort would pay-off, just how they knew that is for you to decide. But to me it looks like extortion with the actors playing both sides and the payee in the middle with no-where to go, a squeeze play.

what will the BO administration be willing to do in order to get consumers spending again?

Perhaps levy a special tax for those who save too much? extra tax if you DO NOT HAVE any mortgage interest deduction?

how about a special payroll withholding that goes into a government "cash card" that can only be used to buy stuff (not essentials like groceries). You could only used the card at target, or walmart, etc.

You might want to go out and make friends with some marines and other vets. Why? Because they are not going to take whats coming on their knees.. Whats your plan to throw a keyboard at your local FEMA rep.

The Marines didn't start this BS.. You might want to wiki Marine History, US Army etc. Because you would not speaking your mind here today were it not for them.

I bet you were taught in school that your 1st Amendment came out of Haight-Ashbury

The problem is that the marines have been co-opted into serving the elites and not the people or the US Constitution. I don't have any problem with marines or any other soldier that chooses to serve their country. But when it comes to just going to third world countries and blasting them to smithereens I have no respect for them at all.

Amen, brother.

But they're sharp enough to realize dissident lefties aren't the guilty party here.

Weapons and tactics; training and discipline.

That discipline part is going to be a real bitch as they learn what has happened, and who did it.

Right, Smedley? ;^D

I agree with you! I agree with everything the original poster said; except his blaming the rank & file marines. I think one thing we all can agree on is the hope that someone within the military will say enough! Enough with this NWO, Elitist BS.

"Smedley"
I was going to suggest Smedley's Testimony about the NWO Plot..

This kind of absolutist line of thinking in America today is what is getting us in trouble. People have no sense of discernment all they see are labels. Let me elaborate.

The marines of today and the US military of today is very different to previous generations. Today the military hires from the very poorest and most destitute members of society and even foreign nationals seeking citizenship. These aren't the highly educated, freedom loving enlightened individuals of yesteryear.

So although they share the same label the quality of todays marines are very different. And of course, have some discernment - I'm not talking about EVERY marine.

The same goes for our approach to politics. It's all Republicans are bad or Democrats are bad. No, they are both highly corrupt today and while they might have some ideological differences the end products of both parties are both big spending, big government and corruption. They have very little in common with the original intent of the Founding Fathers of the USA.

Yet we have so many useful idiots in society and on this blog that only see evil in one party and then sunshine on the side of their particular party.

Take off the blinders people. Stop labeling, stop picking the winning team and for God's sake have some discernment!!

Read "Generation Kill", you'll get the sense of what "today's" marines represent.

Sustainability is the keyword. One day we will run out the most basic neccessities if things go on the way they are now. Those bankers are standing in the way of sustainablity.

The Iraq and Afghanistan wars are the largest contributor to our current economic woes, and every military man and woman is as culpable parasite as the lowest Wall Street type as long as they support these immoral nd futile occupations.

Today's military is the best educated fighting force in the history of the country. Not saying much, I know, but enough to dissolve the "I was only following orders" defense. Unless they stand down and refuse illegal orders, they are the Waffen SS to me.

I will thank one soldier, for now:

"Never in my life did I ever imagine I would have to disobey my president. But then again, never did I imagine my president would lie to go to war, condone torture, spy on Americans, or destroy the career of a CIA agent for political gain. I would rather resign in protest, but the army doesn't agree."
