Congratulations, you're the President of the United States of America, and want the recovery to start. What do you do, smartass?

Give us your ten point plan.

You know mine.

The Soot and Ashes ten point plan to stop the New Great Depression and begin the American recovery

1) 4% 40-year fixed rate mortgages (that Jim Cramer is now promoting) for any homedebtor or homebuyer, one house per person, payment of up to 30% of income, minimum 5% down, direct lending from Fannie/Freddie with no mortgage broker commission allowed. Plus Jim Cramer's idea of refi's for any home in America down to current appraisal, with the short amount picked up government insured certificate with any sale proceeds in the future to be applied against the coupon (UPDATE -HEADING THIS WAY)

2) Pull US troops out of every nation on earth and close down every foreign military base by 2015 (UPDATE - IRAQ WITHDRAWAL COMING)

3) Eliminate market to market accounting and restore the uptick rule (UPDATE - M2M CHANGED, UPTICK NEXT)

4) Ban SKF and all ultra-short stock ETFs (UPDATE - NO PROGRESS)

5) Nationalization of Citibank and Bank of America, which will then be used for direct lending by the government to solvent and credit-worthy businesses and individuals (UPDATE - NO PROGRESS)

6) Forced merger and pre-packaged bankruptcy of Ford, Chrysler and GM into one single private, non-union and debt-free national car company (UPDATE - GM AND CHRYSLER BANKRUPTCIES ON THE WAY)

7) $100,000 maximum IRA contribution ceiling for 2009 and 2010, with suspension of forced IRA withdrawals for 2009, 2010 and 2011 (UPDATE - NO PROGRESS)

8) 0% cap gains tax 2009 and 2010 and accelerated 100% depreciation on all business asset purchases for 2009 and 2010, plus corporate income tax reduced to 10% going forward (UPDATE - NO PROGRESS)

9) $1 trillion five year green energy, infrastructure and transportation Manhattan project stimulus (UPDATE - BLOWING TONS OF CASH, NOT ENOUGH ON GREEN ENERGY)

10) Raise Social Security retirement age to 72 effective 2015, index to life expectancy data after that. Eliminate prescription drug benefit. (UPDATE - THIS WILL HAPPEN IN 2010)

This may happen, but then it's just significant tax that legals will pay to older generations while younger generations will get almost zero benefit. People should have the option of opting out of this transfer of wealth from young to old.

Sucker born every minute. Like OIL ETF too, has no reflection on what it's supposed to represent. But sure is fun to watch. Like watching craps.

Ban it. Should never have been approved to trade. Another financial weapon of mass destruction, allowed by Chris Cox and his incompetent bunch of thieves.

It's too late for ten point plans and easy solutions. Pickles can't turn into cucumbers again. Just like in 1933, the winds of upheaval and generational change are blowing and tens years from now most of us will not recognize the world we inhabit.

Amazing how anti-Union you are, Keith, and yet not one mention of the flood of illegal immigrants and benefits paid. Unfortunately, Mr. Obama is even more clueless than loser Bush and we are just at an intermediate stop on this deflationary express train. I bet you 2 years ago that Schif was dead wrong and I ended up correct and I'm telling you now you best prepare for the next leg down.

Kind of like the current and the previous 2 presidents. Of course it will eventually reach a point when some poor schmuck will take over a mess too big to fix.
Borrowing from Asian savers and running the printing press full tilt might indeed keep the thing from blowing up during the next 4 years. After that pass the mess on to someone else.

Individuals that are in debt do not go further into debt to get out of debt.

This government has hocked our future and garuanteed that we will never recover from this debacle.

The only way out of this is to pay the price and take the pain now instead of prolonging the misery for our lifetime and that that of our children and grandchildren.

Reduce government, lower taxes and put personal responsibility back into the hands of the electorate.

Let banks and automakers fail.

Let home prices plumet to the affordability index. Reward people who paid off their mortgage with a lifetime achievement award of great monitary value. Reward anyone who is debt free.

Put Schumer, Dodd, Franks, Pelosi, Reed and Bush in Jail.

Reward small business startups.

Stop illegal border crossing.

Reward people who are healthy.

Dissolve taxes on investment gains.

Legalize drugs.

Legalize Industrial Hemp cultivation.

Make debt evil.

Fire Obama.

Ban Socialism and Marxism.

Solution #9

One word = ‘energy independents’

I am not much of a tree huger, if the frogs are happy fine if not fine too.

But to answer your question, I would do WHATEVER IT TAKES to make us Energy independent.

If nothing else changes and we arrive at a place where we do not need to depend on others for our energy,

Then the great America and its potential are unlimited.

How about ending the dollar as a debt-based currency?

Not gonna happen. The AARP will raise holy hell.

So you want to inflate another stock market bubble? How about the rejection of bubble economics?
"1) 4% 40-year fixed rate mortgages (that Jim Cramer is now promoting) for any homedebtor or homebuyer, one house per person, payment of up to 30% of income, minimum 5% down, direct lending from Fannie/Freddie with no mortgage broker commission allowed."

It's very simple. Free markets build themselves. We need to arrest and prosecute the criminals and that includes your best buddy Obama. Then we abolish the illegal income tax and shrink government to it's constitutional role.

We are headed for Weimar Germany thanks to these criminals in Washington and Obama continuing and expanding the criminal enterprises of the Bush clan.

You simply don't appreciate the gravity of the situation. Your 10 point plan of tinkering around with the economy isn't going to do jack sh*t.

1. Prison Camps

Most importantly, dot the country with mass prison camps. Anyone suspected of trying to destroy America's economic capacity will be held awaiting trial for treason.

For instance bring the banksters, relators, Toll Brother's shareholders, builders, lying homedebtors, Home and Garden channel staff, appraisers, GW, genius homedebtors, securities bundlers, raters, Lawrence Yun, and the staff of the Federal Reserve to the camps.

2. Restore the Gold Standard

3. Bankrupt those dysfunctional banks. Let the ones doing well thrive in their place.

4. Start rebuilding our bombed out cities. Rebuild the national rail system, give every city over 1 million a subway system, build a national bicycling network. Build some car free cities.

5. Arrest Ben Bernanke

4. Overturn the Patriot Act and reopen the investigation in to 9/11

5. Build a massive passenger rail system across the U.S. Think Eisenhower Interstate Highway big.

6. Eliminate the Electoral College and use popular vote to determine the President

7. Let the Banks pay back the TARP money. A lot of them want to. Forcing them to keep it and pay the debt service is Fascist

8. Build a wall on the border with Mexico. Manet Napolitano and her 51 foot ladder nonsense be damned.

9. Reduce Realtor and mortgage broker commission to a max of 1% until 2015 and require them all to pass a criminal background check to each state's standards. No felons.

Market opens for HONEST capital without CROOKED competition.

Until this happens...fuck around all you like. Threaten us all with Socialist intervention.

It will be many, many years till we forget enough to enable another round of Ponzi.

What is it with politicians, commentators, news people, etc... wanting to "fix the economy". The best way and only way to "fix the economy" is to allow the invisible hand to take charge and allow the free markets to work.

We can't have it both ways; we want prosperity but no recessions or depressions. Capitalism is the best engine for increasing people's standard of living across the board.

The longer we delay the crash, the worse it will get.

www.fairtax.org GDP will skyrocket 11%, did I say JOBS!!!! Yes Jobs will skyrocket which our country NEEDS TODAY! 6700 families losing their homes daily will be able to keep them! For this reason alone the fairtax should be come law. Housing crisis id instantly gone! Incomes go up. Maufacturing jobs go through the roof, in fact it will solve our immigration problems too because we will have too many jobs and need positive immigration. www.fairtax.org learn about it. The more you do the more will like it. At first I wasn't sure two years ago. Then I studied and studied and the more I did, the more I realized the country needs this right now. If they can give corporate welfare they can give the people fair taxation. www.fairtax.org is the answer. It is transparent! This will be the greatest single shift of power to the "PEOPLE" when we put in law H.R. 25 or www.fairtax.org. The politrickster (most of them don't want this because it strips them of power because 50% of the tens of thousands corporate lobyists are for taxes! These politricksters in washington should have to wear their corporate sponsors on their suits just like Nascar drives. I am fed up with the non-federal reserve financial terrorists...they have brought our country to its knees. We need to support H.R. 1207 to audit the Fed...call your congressman and have his support HR25 fairtax. This what you can do for your country.

Imagine never filing a tax return again on April 15. Imagine the hundreds of millions of hours wasted in productivity...by all of us filling out tax returns? How about businesses? Imagine the Trillion dollars a year saved just on preperation and legal tax fees associated with trying to conform to 67,000 pages of useless IRS law...in fact per a 2005 study if you call the IRS for a question about any tax law written in those 67,000 pages of tax law...you have a 60% chance of getting a wrong answer. LET ME REPEAT THAT EVEN THE IRS ADMITS you will get a wrong answer from their trained employees about tax law 60% of the time. This is a damn broken system. Time to replace with a simple 130 pages of new law. www.fairtax.org This is my solution I support for getting this country back on its feet. IT IS TIME! END THE FED HR 1207 & www.FAIRTAX.org HR 25

Repeal the Corporations act so that forming a corporation becomes illegal.

Create member-only banks. The depositors are the ones holding the shares and decide who will be the directors and so on.

Businesses must be run on a co-operative system. Only the employees and the customers are allowed to buy shares.

End the Federal Reserve

Close the Electorate College.

Have a one-person one-vote system.

End representative democracy and have direct democracy.

Have referenda on issues on a one person - one vote basis.

End affirmative action policies - these have introduced a new kind of discrimination. You cannot fight discrimination with discrimination.

With these broad strokes, one can eliminate many of the problems facing the US today eg. having a referendum system will mean the end of all these wars and the foreign bases and the other meddling that goes on. It will end the corruption of the government in giving handouts to businesses that they favor like certain banks and so on.

Simple....let the next Great Depression happen.

The Depression is the much needed hangover after years of "partying".

Fat America needs to go on a diet.

Companies that are on the rocks NEED to fail (yes even big banks and AIG).

Only thru the pain of true economic suffering will Americans learn how to live again within their means.

In the meantime maybe we will lose weight, learn to live with less, rediscover family/friends, read more, and start walking/biking (exercise) more.

In trying to fend off the inevitable, one can only hope to divert the negative impacts in another direction.

But in the end...gravity will win. It always does.
