Welcome to the future.

And in the future, you most DEFINITELY will not be driving a car run on gasoline.

It hath been foretold.

As phrased, that statement is certainly correct. However you could have just stopped at "In the future, you will most DEFINITELY not be driving a car."

do electric cars have an efficiency requirement? like miles per kilowatt hour? they should. all we need is a bunch of inefficient electric cars that charge at night when electricity is going to be supplied by coal fired plants.

This technology has been around for so long, that it makes me sick to think about how little it's used. We deserve to be paying $10/gallon for gas, but I am thankful every day it's only about $2 here in AZ.

dude, the green shirts will never let that happen. build more nuke plants? more dams? cover environmentally sensitive areas with solar panels?

what would all those cold blooded reptiles do in AZ that need the sun to regulate their body temperatures do when the habitat is covered with solar panels?

Maybe we will be driving rickshaws, carrying around our Chinese masters!

Morons!

Why are we not moving faster on getting us off the bosom of crazy dictators and reliance on fossil fuel?

Whether we improve our impact on the environment or not.

Our current situation is simply insane.

On this issue Keefer is 10000% right

Right now we are basically slaves to some nut case with a diaper on his head calling himself ‘king’ of Saudi Arabia.

How much longer are we ‘wanna be free people’ going to take this type of abuse

Every gallon of gas you put into your vehicle and every gallon of heating fuel you put into your tank goes immediately to work against you and your family.

Remember the book "Small is beautiful"? I would love to see each household in the country become more self sufficient. That to me would be a real achievement.

I wonder who the repair men will be on the giant wind towers. You have to climb 230 feet straight up in the air to work on those things. Right now in Northern NY, you get about 20 bucks an hour for that.

Electric = motors + batteries = copper + magnets + lithium. Funny how China seems to have cornered the market on all three primary commodities.

Americans - buy a wheelbarrow, fill it with sand, teach your kids to pull it backwards. This will train them for jobs as rickshaw drivers for their Chinese landlords.

The internal combustion engine is over 100 years old

We will

We definitely will invent a better stronger cheaper engine in the very near future

Conservation is not the answer

Innovation is

Thank you Keith!

In all seriousness, yes I do think we'll be riding horse and carriages, at least the richest of us will. The rest of us face a future of unending toil in the fields after the oil gets shut off. And that's just for the lucky few who escape the dieoff.

Yawn. My four year-old SUV in Brazil runs on FlexFuel (ethanol from sugar cane, gasoline) and GNV (natural gas). I just pick whatever is cheaper at the pump to fill it up with any of those three available fuels.

And yes, GM and Ford cars made in Brazil come with that option.

I will never drive an electric car. Hell, I and my wife still drive 60's and 70's muscle cars everyday for our commute. We love them. Everyone else is driving cookie cutter crap boxes and I get head jerks to check my car out and thumbs ups every day.

So much for the free market huh Obamadolts? You want to MANDATE what a free market will look like! COMMUNISTS! You want to raise the price of gas so "green" alternatives can compete? Free market haters! Quit trying to make everyone else live as pathetic a life as you. LOSERS!

And don't even get me started on the fuc*ing Obama just gave Chrysler bond holders. He should be charged with a crime! And the INEPT, USELESS, PORKED UP, LAZY union workers will just continue working the same way. Nothing will change. The only thing more corrupt than Obama are unions. Electric car. PFT..........

nahhh...the rich will still have their cars/hovercraft.

just the mediocre will have to use the mass transit.

it hath been foretold.

It's the libruls fault. While implying conservatives have done a better job.

Ludicrous.

Even better laugh: rich librul elite want to raise the rich's taxes.

Makes sense.

I think we should go biodiesel. Along this line, Barney Frank's ass is probably good for about 10 gallons.

patrat said...

brasileiro,
yes you make sense. There was some reason why this didn't already happen in the US - tariffs or something. And yes the US car makers already know how to do this. Why doesn't our media tell us any real news like this?

Wind Farmer said...

I wonder what the UAW will do with the car companies now that they've been given to them? Do you suppose they'll invent the car of the future? Is there some motor head in the union...some assembly-line guy with a vision for the car of the future and now, finally, he has the chance to show the world what the unions are really capable of...Be careful what you wish for, now show us what you can do.

I've got plenty of popcorn and a couple of old Hondas. I'm waiting...

Our 'addiction' to oil is directly proportional to our tolerance of a readily corruptible two-party system of government that parlays the financial 'contributions' of those who supply our oil into enacted industry-written legislation - ensuring ever-increasing oil demand.

This same pay-to-play system applies to all other sectors of our economy.

As it stands, innovation will usually be 'timed' to allow for maximum profit potential and maximum market dominance by the *captains* of industry.

What a racket.

Hitler did the same.

Those are some geniuses you hang out with Queeferino. Windmills kill birds and hydro electric dams don't allow fish to move upstream. And NUKE is a four letter word. DEMS SUCK.

Good subject, but the "hath been foretold" part, well...

Keith, c'mon... they're teaching the same thing in 7th grade earth science.

It's just amazing how we have such tunnel vision that we assume we must per force be driving SOMETHING. It's like a nervous tick, can't stay in one spot more than a few hours.

i've had it said...

i saw one of these hybrid fedex trucks yesterday outside my building. they make a shitload of noise.

Brazilian Embraer's first plane powered by sugar cane ethanol has been flying since 2004.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embraer_EMB_202_Ipanema

Currently, only 1% of Brazilian cropland produces sugar cane. To supply the entire world's car fleet with Brazilian ethanol, it would take only 3% of its land.

The land in consideration is only what's designated for crops. Protected reserves like the Amazon and other Federal owned land aren't included, thus making the total area used for ethanol even smaller. Therefore nobody would go hungry in Brazil, if 3% of its cropland were to produce ethanol to supply the entire world.

As an added bonus, the residuals from sugar cane are used to power energy plants and to produce paper.

A country's stability is important, and I won't lie to you. We do have extremism in Brazil, but it consists of big asses and partying heavily all night.

If the current American Administration was really serious about the environment, it would demand that all American vehicles ran on both, FlexFuel and natural gas. Something very simple to achieve by GM, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, or Honda since these automakers have been manufacturing vehicles with the same technology in Brazil for many years.

Your country's rich in natural gas, giving you the option to pick which fuel to buy at the pump, like we do. That's real free market.

The proposed new mileage standards by the current Administration does nothing to curb American dependency on oil, just postpones it. There's no need to build those tiny cars, like the Smart and Fiat. Give the choice to the consumer on what to fill their cars with, or which car sizes to buy.

I know some like to seat on Herman Miller fancy schmancy chairs and drive little electric cars. I still prefer to seat on an ol' Lazy Boy with my feet up. The way things are going, I'm afraid that many will be forced to live like the Nuuuni couple from SNL:

You know what Keith you are completely wrong about this prediction. This the late 70's all over again.

Nazi Germany got 1/3rd of fuel supplies using gasoline produced using the Fischer-Trosch process, and mostly from coal.

One day everyone is going to wake up and realize the solution already exists. Natural gas -> gasoline. Much cleaner gas BTW. Also, once the economic's of scale are applied (along with innovation) the cost will come way down. It will be the most cost effective solution. This will be the technology used and will give us the time to develop fusion.

It hath been foretold!

BTW those looking to get into the action on this idea, check out SYNM. The enterprise value is enormous. It will be bought out be a Cheveron or Exxon (if their smart). If not, it will be GE.

I'd love to know a few things from the libs who are creaming in their pants over a world in which everyone drives a Prius:

- how will farmers operate without trucks? Kinda hard to run a farm/ranch with Prius power I imagine.

- what will you do with the hundreds of thousands of people who will be unemployed at ski resorts, campgrounds and all other recreation areas that require 4X4 to reach? Try getting to a Colorado ski resort in 3 feet of snow using a Prius.

- what do you propose happen to everyone employed right now in building, selling, repairing, maintaing boats and RVs? Kinda hard to tow a boat with a Prius? Bonus question: what will all the people who work at docks do for a living?

Obama was in Elkhart, IN for one of his big speeches about the stimulus. Elkhart is the capital of RVs. And when Obama is done implemnting his vision of "GREEN", Elkhart will be a ghost town. Serves the idiots right for supporting the man I suppose.
