What would a nuclear war between North and South Korea do to the world economy?

Maybe the little guy ain't bluffing?

Ever consider it?

And boy, sure would be nice if China and Russia would take care of business in their backyard for a change. We need to sit this one out. We're broke.

Russia fears Korea conflict could go nuclear

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia is taking security measures as a precaution against the possibility tension over North Korea could escalate into nuclear war, news agencies quoted officials as saying on Wednesday.

Forget about the North-South Korea debate.

How about a First Strike test? How about an aimpoint of Washington DC with the target of the next joint session of congress...

Now that, would be progress.

YES YOU CAN!

Wars are generally great for the economy - over time. Obama needs one badly as his budget projections and economic forecasts seem a bit optimistic...

I traveled in South Korea a few years ago. They are serious as a heart attack when it comes to the military and dealing with the North. A war between these two would be no holds barred the most violest shitfest the world has ever witnessed.

It would mean the end of all the Korean Costume dramas about former Emperors and strongmen on Public Broadcasting here.

Of course he's bluffing - he's been bluffing and bluffing continuously for years. This dog ain't got no bite. He bites South Korea on the ankle and he get's resoundingly crushed. He knows that. Sheesh!

Irrelevant to the rest of the world, let them go at each others, we’ll watch all the excitement on TV.

Sit this one out? Now there's a damn refreshing idea, Keith!
Sit this one out. Wow, I like the sound of that. Let Russia and China deal with it. Yeahhhhh....
Are you listening, Obama?
Congress?
Dick Cheney?

Unlike the dangerous crazy homicidal egotistical Arabs the US has no business meddling between these 2 Asian countries, if South Korea loses the war, then so be it.

The only risk is that they sell weapons to the Iranians (and other Islamo kook countries).

This is more about pushing oil prices up to OPEC's $75/bbl target.

North Korea's fear-mongering *reward* is probably being paid in installments...

North Korea can hit Alaska with their missiles. They probably would miss any useful target or not even explode (a la Saddam Scud) but I expect it would complicate things.

Radiation from there also lands in Alaska and Canada. The North is already hugely polluted from emissions from coal fired plants in China.

It would suck.

We'd have to say adios to the craziest auto warranty in the business.

Also, we'd have to say goodbye to the best high-effeciency performance washing machine manufacturer in the world made by LG. Maytag and their CM's SUCK!

Who really cares - we've created an economic nuclear war right here within our own borders, we have plenty of problems here that will sink this nation already.

Right here in Southern Ca., along the coast, we're seeing stores close up - some family owned for more than 40-years - over night, and it's only going to get much, much, much worse in the coming months and years ahead of us.

The only reason N. Korea would do it would be if the Chinese told them to. N. Korea is a Chinese foaming at the mouth attack dog puppet, it does not do anything unless the Chinese instruct it. The Chinese send it out every so often to test the West and its resolve.

Nuclear Korean wars? Economies would go up. But Hundai parts would be hard to find.

Besides, everyone loves Korean B-B-Qs. Yum!!!

how many troops do we have in s. korea? 20,000? 30,000?

BO needs to start talking some more to n. korea because the talking he has done so far hasn't helped.

It'd jump start the economy. Someone's going to have to make Hyundai's while Korea's at war. Think of the jobs in missile and amphibious landing craft production!

North Korea nuking the South?

Dream on.
Can’t you see?

Their real goal of perfecting a nuclear weapon is so that they can sell it to the Middle East fanatics, who will then use it on…uh-oh!

Neither China nor Russia would tolerate a nuclear war at their border. Not an option.
What's an option however it that the "Dear Leader" sells his creation to people equally as crazy as him. From Chavez and Iran to various terrorist factions in the Middle East.
Not sure what the technical details of the bomb are. If its dimensions are no larger than an average SUV there're options. Once you sneak a bomb into a container ship headed for NYC or any other major harbor city, you have the perfect low cost delivery system. No missles needed. Security in third world harbors is bound to be pretty lax, so sneaking in a little nuke might not pose that much of a problem. Then you get some sucide bombers in with the crew and voila!
Wonder what that would do to the Balitc shipping index? That would pretty much shut down international trade.

============================
This has been going on damn near forever!

Good China,

Baaaaaaad N.Korea

N. Korea has learned to balance obedience to China and "disobedience" to the rest of the world to get it through tough times.

Need money, no problem!

N. Korea just pulls some aggravating stunt that ticks off the west. The west discreetly sends in diplomats to talk, deal settles, aid flows.

Presto! End of N.Korea being a problem. It immediately stops its bad behavior..... Until next time.

This "child" has become an expert in fine-tuning its "tantrums" to get what it really wants.

Hmm..........does "rewarding bad behavior" ring a bell?

Previous poster was beyond right-on about their militaries though! I have had experience working with the S. Korean military, a north/south conflict between these two will give history a new yardstick to measure the term sh*tstorm by!

Their militaries are two pit bulls in the ring, just waiting and praying for the leashes to be snapped!

Samsung, LG, Hyundai, Daewoo... South Korea is the major tech manufacturer for the world today. This is almost like the Bond film from the mid-80s, "View To A Kill", where Christopher Walken threatened to destroy Silicon Valley to corner the world's chip manufacturing. Today, that region would be South Korea, not the Redwood Shores-to-San Jose area.

I think that's a part of the game here.

Being causal about this is not wise. The game afoot is about Japan. Korea is the historic invasion route of mainland Asia into Japan. Keeping Japan from feeling the need to become militaristic for 60 years has been the focus of US foreign policy including the first Korean War. If the US, China, and Russia cannot manage the situation Japan will re-arm including nuclear weapons. East Asia will make the middle-east look like a picnic.

"...dangerous crazy homicidal egotistical Arabs the US has no business meddling...You said it. Too bad we didn't take that to heart 56 years ago; we could've had an oil-rich ally instead of fronting for BP stockholders.

"Israel has its own problems to deal with and cannot afford to worry about 2 slant eyed peoples going at each other."

You're a douche - Israel will use this as further evidence that N. Korea is a crazy rogue nation with nukes (and is selling tech and components to the rogue nation of Iran) as a pretext to prevent the Iranians (another crazy and rogue nation) from acquiring such nukes. Israel will prevent Iran from obtaining such nukes by bombing them.

Of course Israel does not give a shit about two Asian countries - albeit, they would probably like to install central bank owned by Jewish people in the one Korea that does not currently have one.

Yeah, because we all know that the North Koreans have chip manufacturing plants ready to go to monopolize the semiconductor industry right after they nuke South Korea.

Give me a break.

The Koreans think that Obama is toothless. They are right. They think they can push us around and get money out of him. They are right again. They think that if they have ballistic missiles and working nukes that they can scrap the Korean War agreements. Right again. They think that if the UN passes resolutions against them that countries like Russia, China, France and Germany will just violate them anyway under-the-table (like the Iraq Oil for Food Agreements). Right again! Damn, these Koreans are right about everything. They also think the American public has turned so far left that they have no stomach for a fight. Wow. Korea 10 US 0.

They also think that the Chinese have their backs. Hmm. Maybe, maybe not.

And they also think the Japanese will not act without US approval. WRONG. Uh, oh. This isn't Japan's back yard, it's Japan's front yard. Japan isn't going to let this go. Nasty situation.

I guess what we need are seventeen strongly worded UN Resolutions that the French can ignore.

I wonder if the Koreans have Weapons of Mass Destruction?

Anonymous said...

"Yeah, because we all know that the North Koreans have chip manufacturing plants"

No, but China, their taskmaster, does.

This is exactly what Japan needed.

The Japanese are debating about whether or not to let Japanese companies to produce and export military arms.

The Japanese robotics industry is very excited. They see a huge market for drones.

BTW, the US employs over 5,000 robots and flying drones in the Middle East.

i've had it said...

There can't be a nuclear war between the two because South Korea doesn't have any nukes. It would be a one-way war. Having said that, if NK nuked SK, everything would stop cold in its tracks. The U.S. would have to respond in kind...we did not go to war against NK and station our troops there for 50 years just to see it go poof.

We'd have to nuke PyongPang into dust.

Don't you idiots think logically ?

The North Koreans are using their powerful toy as a bargaining tool to extract concessions from their adversaries. It has worked - even with the hawkish Cheney/Bush administration.

Iran too is looking at N. Korea as an example as it is the ultimate guarantee against a hostile force invading it.

All these "rogue" nations are cunning enough to not actually use these weapons unless there is justification in doing so, like a response to a preemptive attack.

Anonymous said...

There will not be a nuclear war between North and South Korea. It is ignorant to consider the thought. The U.S. is the target of North Korea, that is what they have been training their million man army for. They probably feel they can defeat this country. Look at what happened during the Korean War. Instead of fighting with the Iraqis this country should have been preparing for North Korea. They are ready for us.

Very dangerous is Nth korea ,a proven paranoid threat to the whole world and especialy Israel as noted above..
You only have to look at their track record.Their dropping of Nukes on Hiroshima and Nagasaki just because they were colonised by Japan for decades . The war against the US forces attempting to preserve a sensible division of the Korean people into two nations . Everybody knows the dear leader is dotty and keeps on lying about Macarthur threatening to use nukes in the Korean war and the non existant “all options on the table’ “negotiations’ since then. The guys a paranoid always threatening to ignore the sovereign right of america on the high seas ,by boarding like pirates US ships he claims are armed with weapons of mass destruction nukes and all that stuff. I know he is a threat to the world because of all the wars he and his god dam father have waged over the years. It just slips my mind where these wars were right now. I will have to check it up on Fox news .Was it war in Vietnam, Panama, Iraq or Afghanistan ? ,Anyway the track record is there . And he wears built up shoes just shows how sick one Korean can get!
Obamy you got that !
Nth korea is a threat to Isreal tooo that’s enough for any righteous Prez to do something .Now!

South Korea is a puppet, as North Korea says. But the USA is also a puppet. So to be more accurate, South Korea is a puppet of a puppet regime.
