Chris Rock on US drug policy (NSFW)
Legalize pot - yes or no?
Legalize cocaine - yes or no?
Legalize alcohol - yes or no?
(Oh, sorry, my bad, that last drug was already re-legalized)

If I would ever do pot, I would eat it, or boil it to make tea, because inhaling the smoke from ANY burning abject is bad for your lungs.
And the only reason "pot is bad" is because of the assholes who take it a step further by adding other shit to it; things like coke.
Pot- Yes
Coke-No
Alcohol-I don't care, I never touch the stuff.
Yes, legalize marijuana. Yes, legalize cocaine.
Tax it heavily and use the proceeds to pay for drug addiction treatment centers. There will be plenty of money left over for all kinds of other programs. Just don't use the proceeds to bailout wall street or the automakers or homebuilders or realtors.
This will never happen because organized crime needs the proceeds of illegal drug sales to stay in business. Organized crime needs to pay all it's murderous, rapist, parasitic minions.
And I say this as a person who hasn't touched any illegal drug in over 10 years. The fact that I don't do drugs has nothing to do with their being illegal. I don't do drugs because I don't want to - simple as that.
YES on everything.
Anyone who wants to make using a substance in whatever manner you personally see fit is either a fascist or a hypocrite.
yes,no,yes
Agree 100%. I think we'll be forced to end the War on Drugs soon.
I do not take drugs, but the only reason why they are illegal is to make the rich richer.
I don't "partake" but I could give a sh*t what you put into your body. Go kill yourself for all I care - with alcohol, pot, cocaine, McDonalds, or whatever.
But when the government attempts to legalize what substance is right and what is wrong, then I have a problem.
We're broke. Admit that. And spending hundreds of billions to imprison people selling substances to other people is stupid.
Go have some crack cocaine and kill yourself. Good riddance.
But don't expect a nice cozy jail cell on my dime.
Legalize and tax pot. It's estimated that 10% of the population smokes pot and spends on average $1000 per year. So lets do the numbers. 10% of 275,000,000 x $1000 = $2,750,000,000, seems like a nice industry. Oh and the number of users would undoubtedly go up if it was legal.
ATE-UP SAYS:
I lost my beautiful wife to drugs. I was a successful lawyer and crack cocaine addict. 14 years clean. Homeless and mentally ill seven. Back to practicing law, doing well performance wise, but facing extreme socio-economic and psychological barriers, (guilt, remourse). I would say decriminalize pot. Never legalize cocaine. Alcohol is unavoidably legal, and on balance is like pot. Causes less problems overall. However, any mind altering substance is bad for society and bad for me. I cannot speak for you. Yes I drink beer. Too much, but I also run 25 miles a week, and learned many hard lessons.
Ate Up,
That is one hell of a life story. There is a lot you could teach all of us.
I see you still visit Scottsdale Sucks. Too bad it is pretty much kaput.
Thanks Ross. I needed that. Just one person. Yeah, Frank and I have a love hate relationship. He is pretty cool in a way. Again, thank you very much.
Greg
Hey Ross:
Frank's "Ghetto Central" post is pretty cool. Check it out.
Ya Bud,
Greg
Ross:
One more add. I thought about my weak response, "I needed that". Let me add a caveat. I had two good supportive wives, who loved me dearly and were twice as strong as my pansy artificial ass was (dangling participle intended).
Without either of them, I would have never been a "lawyer", or would have never learned how to wipe my own ass for that matter.
So, while I appreciate your humanity, and can tell you are a very good person, do not give me any credit.
I made my bed. I live in it, ironically with some peace I have never had before in my life.
Thanks again, Ross.
Greg
if you want to be practical, let's legalize pot and shrooms. then after a couple decades of empirical data, take a long hard look at the lab/chemical stuff.
i never bought that "gateway" horsecrap anyway. it's only the gateway to bad people peddling bad sh*t b/c nice people like your mom & pop can't grow it for free in their backyards.
and don't go ruining it by taxing it once it's legal.
I see you still visit Scottsdale Sucks. Too bad it is pretty much kaput.
What in the hell happened to Frank, BTW? I wouldn't be surprised to see Frank in some episode of The Real House Wives Of Orange County.
Legalize everything because it's a good way to cleanse the weak from society.
Way back when I was in Nam, I knew many a G.I. that was a hard core herion addict. Over there they smoked it as a weapon of choice. Their habit cost them maybe a buck a day, if that. They came to work, did their job, went back to their hooch at the end of the day, and nobody knew the difference. Being in the medical field, I knew that after the initial "euphoria period" works itself out, the addict needs his hit every day not to get high, but to simply not get sick, i.e. go through withdrawl.
Then the poor SOB got shipped stateside with a $300-600 a day habit over here, which was financially manageable over there.
I firmly believe that if the government made drugs legal, the bottom would drop out of the "used to be illegal" drug market. Also the government could regulate quality and purity, AND tax the $h#t out of it like they do cigarettes.
A logical and non puritanical approach to drugs we will never get, I'm afraid.
-legalize personal use of everything
-regulate (adults only, graphic warnings, no ads)
-criminalize harm or unreasonable risk to others, pretty much what they do with booze
-tax big time
-research & publish studies on health effects to increase accuracy of warnings
Ate-Up,
You're welcome for the kind words and I will continue to visit Scottsdale Sucks as long as it's on life support.
Frank got me started on Twitter, which is worth checking out. I think it's brilliant in its simplicity. It creates a sense of community - not competition like most social networking sites do.
Community is what gets us out of this mess, not new laws and new spending. The more laws we create, the harder the "criminals" work, i.e. the War on Drugs.
I think that Alcohol has done more damage then weed ever could. I find it very strange that some of the worst things for you - alcohol, cigarettes and fast food are legal. While a plant that you can grow is illegal. I agree that inhaling any kind of smoke into your lungs is not healthy, but considering the air quality in most of our cities from all the fossil fuels what is the difference.
So...
Pot = Yes
Coke = Yes (Can be prescribed by Dr.)
Alcohol = Yes
I think taxing and regulations are the way to go versus creating laws to try to stop people from doing something they want to do. Society will sort out the addicts and abusers. In the meantime why not add a whole new industry and job base to the country.
Talk about soot and ashes. The further legalization of mind altering, body damaging, addictive drugs would lead to a society of destroyed individuals.
I grew up in a place where I had occasion to see numerous people destroy themselves through the use of the substances listed and many others.
To advocate making it easier for people to do this, IN ORDER TO COLLECT TAX REVENUES, disgusts me to the core. It is a noble goal to look out for your fellow human beings. Establishing law that recognizes the ill effects of the substances and makes it harder for them to be bought/sold/used is valid.
BTW, I believe some drugs are less harmful then others, and laws should take this into account. however even the "less" harmful drugs can have a serious impact on oneself and others around them.
PS. Chris Rock has it dead on with the gov't (well gov't because of big pharma) wanting you to take their legal drugs, which in many cases are just as bad. Those should be illegal too. The mind altering ones.
First thing to do is stop counselors from SIMPLY PRESCRIBING CHILDREN psychiatric drugs to treat disorders such as add adhd just because the parents feel the kid is too energetic. Studies show several children who were diagnosed with add or adhd who are given SSRI's develop chemical imbalances or bipoloar as young adults. Maybe some children do need some treatment but many times its just overworked lazy or bad parenting skills AND MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSION SPONSORING PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES. Allowing children to sit play video games gain weight become obese EAT UN-NUTRITIOUS FOOD. Look at school lunch programs today.MCDONALDS, PIZZA HUT, KFC, TACO BELL HEARD OF A COMPANY CALLED PEPSICO?
DECRIMINALIZE MARIJUANA PROMOTE HEALTHIER USAGE SUCH AS VAPORIZING, EDIBLES
RAISE THE TAXES 100% ON CIGERETTES AND TOBACCO PRODUCTS
PROMOTE HEALTH AND WELLNESS SO PEOPLE DONT HAVE TO FEEL THEY NEED TO RELY ON THESE SUBSTANCES IN THE FIRST PLACE. EXERCISE IS A WONDERFUL HIGH Helps self esteem too and releases SERATONINS NATURALLY TO TREAT ANXIETY AND HELP YOU FOCUS.
MANDATORY PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN ALL SCHOOLS K-12 NOT ELECTIVE
Chris Rock is funny but he doesnt need to cuss and drop the Nbomb so much to make people laugh.
Black comedians Pryor and Eddie Murphy and even Bill Cosby cussed less and were far funnier to me. Not Black but George Carlin is my hero
