Soot and Ashes Serious Question of the Day

Net-net, did the Baby Boomers have a negative or positive impact on the history of America and the world?

(and can you believe the altruistic peace-and-love, rage-against-the-man hippie generation became the greedy, selfish, pre-emptive war, pollute-the-world, bankrupt-the-children generation? How the f*ck did that happen?)

History will be brutal.

It happened out of pure Greed!!

It was never enough and the boomers really thought they can change the world and they did!

In the past 25 years they have created and controlled the finance business and every other business and ran it into the ground for their own gain without a care! Look at all of the people who are CEO's like Thain and Wagoneer from GM all are around the same age and have ruined thier respected industry!!! Now they have left us the biggest fucked up situation the world has ever seen and we (genXer's) have to be so creative to fiqure out a solution like usual! The gen Xers have always had to fight an uphill battle with these assholes. First by not letting us in to the workplace and get decent jobs so we can have a normal life. There is no factory work like there was 25 years ago b/c of the boomers greed and sending jobs overseas for more $$$ on the bottom line without the thought of what they are doing to the rest of the ordinary people. Just like the other post about college education is run by boomers and they benifit on the fact that we (gen x'ers) are told we have no choice but to try to get a degree or we are worthless! If a gen x'er didn't come from a wealthy bloodline then they had to work for them selves b/c there is no other alternatives!! So you have degree people and non degree people being fucked by boomers and the main difference is degree people have a piece of paper saying they are entitled to a decent salary but can't find one, while the non degree people which are very smart and very computer literate have been busting major ass to be in business for themselves like a hamster in his wheel for nothing!! Degree people are in debt to boomers and non degree are in debt to themselves! It is sad to say there are gen xers who have no drive or concept and eat Fat Donalds and KFC every chance they get and play video games too! But majority of gen xers who get it feel like we have been screwed our whole lives by boomers!!! 25 years ago houses were cheap, cars were cheap, girls were cheap and fun!! How bad things have changed!! Fuck them can't they die faster!! No we have to take care of them now!! Great thanks you assholes!!!!!!!!

To answer your question, it happened because at heart they have always been the generation of "its all about me." Even that peace and love rage against the machine hippie nonsense came about because they didn't want to go to 'nam. It was never about peace, love, and togetherness for all but the truest of believers. For most it was about easy sex, partying, and avoiding the war. Not that i have a problem with any of that, but i wish they would at least be honest about it, or anything else for that matter. Hopefully the widespread irresponsibility, self delusion, and dishonesty in society that exists today because of them perishes with them. They have been a scourge on this nation. They'll get their just desserts when they have their "free" healthcare rationed to them in their later years forcing them to their graves that much earlier.

Good riddance indeed!

A lot of them were sheeple. Would have followed any movement. Realized that when they shed their Indian gear for disco clothes.
Me, I'm an authentic old hippie.
And what they have become amazes me too.
I never did drugs, but loved the 'free to be me' concept of life we started then. It was great.
Still have a hippie kind of store, have worn nothing but jeans and T's ever since.
I was stupid enough to think at that time that we had changed things so drastically, it would always be peace and love.
Was really shocked, especially with how they donned suits and destroyed the economy.
Posers at heart, that's the only explanation.

"The Worst Generation"

by Paul Begala

I hate the Baby Boomers. They're the most self-centered, self-seeking, self-
interested, self-absorbed, self-indulgent, self-aggrandizing generation in
American history. As they enter late middle age, the Boomers still can't grow
up. Guys who once dropped acid are now downing Viagra; women who once eschewed
lipstick are now getting liposuction.

I know it's a sin to hate, so let me put it this way: If they were animals,
they'd be a plague of locusts, devouring everything in their path and leaving
but a wasteland. If they were plants, they'd be kudzu, choking off ever other
living thing with their sheer mass. If they were artists, they'd be abstract
expressionists, interested only in the emotions of that moment -- not in the
lasting result of the creative process. If they were a baseball club, they'd be
the Florida Marlins: prefab prima donnas who bought their way to prominence,
then disbanded -- a temporary association but not a team.

I'm part of that generation. Here is what everyone needs to understand.

The "60's", as we imagine it, was not the ENTIRE generation. Not even close. The group we now fantasize about (like the picture you show), was actually a TINY portion of my generation, mostly based on campuses across the country.

My college years were 1969-1973 (back in the days when almost everyone completed college in 4 years).

The people that raised all the hell and pushed all the changes (myself included), were a TINY percentage of the student body. MOST students on campus during my period were mostly conventional and fairly conservative. I remember once saying to a group, our tiny group of activists are going to go through life largely by ourselves, surrounded by conservatives.

The vast majority of the "60's" generation that is out here today doing damage to the world were NOT the afro, long hair, bead wearing hippies in the picture. Most people during my college years had short hair, conventional views, supported the Vietnam War but didn't go, and voted for Nixon.

As a black student activist during that period, believe me, I remember the conservatives and moderates on campus during that period. They were mostly very quiet and very mad. Nixon called them, his "slient majority".

I added the Saturday Night Fever video because I think that represents the boomers just swell too

It's gotta suck being a part of a generation that turned to sh*t, because not all Boomers were self-absorbed, screw-the-next-generation dimwits like their leaders.

But they should have stood up. They should have taken to the streets. They should have been more responsible at the ballot box.

And they weren't.

The majority ruled, and it took America down. And history will be brutal.

The Boomer generation will be hated and mocked and ridiculed for the rest of time. Which really won't do any good. They f*cked America, they f*cked the planet, and they stuck future generations with their tab.

There is no going back. And the damage that's been done may never be reversed.

And I'm not sure X and Y will be much better. More "we're entitled", self-absorbed, spoiled, lazy, do-nothing zombies.

Maybe after 'the troubles', Gen Z will rise up. But by then, it may be too late.

Well, the Beatles kind of started it all. Can't tell you what is was like to hear the Beatles after hearing nothing but Peggy Lee, Robert Goulet or Anita Bryant. And the 50's werent' bad, but something just swept thru our generation like a wildfire. I mean, we could have done nothing and the world wouldn't have changed one bit.
Looking back, I had no idea the traumas my parents had suffered. Especially WW2, which my father would never talk about. I don't think they even had time to breathe before their kids were saying you didn't have to wait to get married to have sex, they didn't want to go to college, but to see the world (very cheap back then), wanted to study 'uselss' things like social studies, anthroplogy, or god forbid, pshychology. My parents just kept all of their feelings bottled up inside. If they didn't talk about it, it didn't exist. Of course my generation had to talk about everything ad nausem, and turns out there was a lot to talk about.
Tradtional religion was deadening. My mother was still wearing pearls to fix breakfast.
Abortions became legal, and they invented the birth control pill, so naturally that changed the entire culture, as you could screw around withoug getting aids ( for a while) or pregnant.
Guess everybody just had to try it.
That's just a few things.
But it was a time that being liberal and an artist were encouraged and celebrated, and for that I will always be greatful.
Oh well, back to 2009...
(like most of us, never thought I'd live to see it)

Boomers were net locusts of our society. And they aren't done yet. After encouraging the government to spend more than they were taking in, (causing rampant inflation) holding a disproportionate amount of white collar jobs with blue collar credentials (after the manufacturing base left, were did those workers go, into white collar jobs, lowering salaries in white collar america and keeping younger generations out) Where do young people work? In the service industry (telemarketers, customer service, waitresses), computers (boomers couldn't figure them out) and health care (but not really as MDs, but really as nurses and PAs) Oh and government services, like firemen and police, only because boomers have long since retired there. (after 20 years with full pension)Every other industry, dominated by boomers. High powered lawyer? Boomer. Staff attorney, public defender, paralegal? Gen x. Full-time University professor? Boomer. Adjunct Professor? Gen x. Marketing exec for Radio shack? Boomer. Sales clerk for radio shack? Gen x. (Who knows more about what Radio shack customers want, I wonder)

Point is they haven't even started taking a toll on the health care of this country yet. That will be the straw that breaks the camels back. When these Viagra popping, botox injecting idiots start getting sick, our budget and economy goes kablooey. Its about to blow and most boomers are still paying in for their parents (the greatest generation) and its barely working. Wait until they need to be supported by the generations they riddled with debt, debt, debt for college, cars, and housing have to pay for the health care. With lower paying jobs. And fewer workers.

It doesn't matter. Now kindly help Obama and all as we rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Anonymous said...

They're not done, yet. This plague of locusts still has to devour Social Security and Medicare, demanding younger generations pay for it and leaving nothing for them.

Gen X & Y are no better and possibly worse due to lack of strong sciences, education AND WORK ETHIC.

Am I generalizing? Sure...but only a bit...For every smart, hardworking kid you know there's 5 that are going to nullify that.

I'm not scared about the future since it's what well deserved for our weaknesses and greed (Sorry Catholic Boy at heart).

What will be sad is these kids have no idea how to just lower their standards of living without crying, throwing tantrums and getting into their Prozac mode.

I was in Mexico during the peso crash and we just adapted, hunkered, helped each other and did what we could...People in Europe and in the US don't have that menatlity.

Boomers/Gen X/Gen Y = Selfish & Materialistic.

Obama though not my fav will try to steer us to a "Ask not..." country but as a whole we can't save the ship because it's sunk already.

perhaps 1960 is the cut off for boomers but 60-69 was kind of lost decade where those born between 60 and 69 are neither really boomers or genx. we identify with parts of both. those born in the 70s are clearly genx.

the die-off and Great Depression v2.0 will mold my GenX more than anything else... and it'll teach us to shut up and get to work re-building. the Boomers and welfare recipients will be die-off/GD2 casualties.

one big difference is waste. you'll see more closed-loop systems/businesses. efficiency and functionality over form. Wall Street and crony capitalism will go the way of the buggy whip. the really big improvement will be personal responsibility. folks who survive the die-off will recognize that real skills saved their lives and reliance on welfare is a death sentence.

anyway, check out this guy dress a whitetail in 8 minutes! WOW!!!!

btw, the die-off will be from food and energy not reaching the urban areas. get your bolt action rifle (for hunting) and handgun (to protect your family and property) now b/c when the cities default on the police union they won't give a darn about serving nor protecting.

I think for the most part the Boomers blew it, but there are exceptions. My parents are boomers, but they didn't go to college and never had the time or money to go to college so that they could spend daddy's money to bitch about how bad life is. I do sympathize with the Boomers in regards to Vietnam, that was surely a horrific war, and I believe that the disillusionment that followed has a lot to do with where we are at today in regards to this cynical, snarky "not gonna fool me" culture.
However, I believe a lot of those hippie/Boomers used that feeling of disillusion to justify their own self-interest. Rather than continue to try for the better good, many seemed to decide that being fat and happy was better than sticking to your beliefs.
In sum, I guess I see the Boomers in a similar way to how I see the people that created the housing bubble: not everyone is part of the problem, and a lot of people thought it was B.S., but the squeaky wheels are the ones that have gotten the attention.

If they are boomers, does this mean that most other boomers are probably like them?

Starting from about 1950 to the present, can anyone see a trend in the way we have been raising our children?

As for what has happened to America and other places of the world, who is at fault?

I think the name begins with the letter S.

I think that the movie Animal House sumed up the Boomers quite well. Self-indulgent from both the left and the right.

Bill Clinton is Otter

George Bush was Greg Marmalard.

Dick Cheney was Neidermyer

I am pretty sure that most of Wall Street is now on Double Secret Probation.

It wasn't the loaded hippies looking for a way out that was the problem is was the drunk coked up Facist of that generation that took over and screwed it all up. To reference another movie ... American Beauty sums it up in spades.

Some boomer stories about highschool friends.
One of my best friends who was a hippie for about 5 minutes, bought a collection agency from this little old lady. Within 5 years he was a multi-millionaire. Fell in love with the classic blonde secretary with huge boobs and literally stole her away from her finance who immediately killed himself.
After buying 5 REAL mansions, and this was in the early 80's, having a little girl, and just having a grand old time harrassing people who were late on their bills, and living a great lifestyle as a result,was found dead on his couch by his wife one morning due to a massive heartattack. He was 30.
She hated him so much she didn't even go to the funeral.

Another friend who with his father started HGTV and produced much of the housing porn we have been assaulted and insulted with,made co-zillions but died in June of massive heart attack. He was 56.

Not sure what the moral of this story is.
Don't take it all too seriously, no matter what your age.
Money brings way too much stress.
All of those who are ransacking the country right now WILL PAY.

I always knew there was something wrong with my parents generation but I didn't put it together until about 5 years ago. They embody the word "consumer" in every way.

The question then becomes who is the producer, because the producer always overtakes the consumer eventually no matter who had the advantage to begin with.

The Baby Boomers have been exposed and it just keeps getting uglier. Can we make any analogies here? Robber Barrons?

Hey do not count me as one of the Boomer hippies. The cult was only about 10 percent of the age group. I was a young engineer as conservative as one could get.

I added value to society over the years. If you get electricty from San Onfre or Con Ed or Millstone in Conn, I helped design those Nuc plants. Later on I worked in aerospace and designed some of the stuff you see on TV and video games. I volunteer for various causes. (Homeless for one)

I happened to make a ton of money through conservative means working my ass off.

So don't categorize me with those assholes. Look at yourself first and figure out how YOU are going take over where guys like me left off. There were losers and flunkies in my geneeration as well as there are in yours, but only you, if you are up to it, can carry on.

Our greatest generation fought in WWII. They came home to a grateful nation, married, found jobs and had kids, whom they protected from the harsh realities they witnessed both at home and abroad.

This is turn made coddles those boomer kids, so they grew up affluent with more opportunities than any other generation before them. They squandered that on all daddy's money by whining about everything under the sun.

Sure Vietnam was a clusterf*ck, but they had it so good and still they complained. They are still complaining and trying to drag this once great nation down this ridiculous socialistic path.

If our founding fathers wanted socialism, they would have put it in the constitution.

Boomers will reap what they have sown. They think they are passing the bill to the younger generation, but what they will see is a reduction in their own wealth and standard of living as they age and their income does not keep pace. If they do hold the "wealth", then where is the tax man going to look? At the younger generation in the service sector?
What have the Boomer's given us? How is our life better? Where are our role models? They "talk" about issues since their parents wouldn't, yet they are the biggest generation of people living in denial about the messes they have made in their own lives. And then they have the "audacity" to bad mouth the younger generations calling them so much worse- yet they raised them. Or rather, they worked while they grew up.
Tell me, what did a Boomer do to make my Gen Y life better? And does it even hold a candle to the legancy of my grandparents' generation?

Bukko Boomeranger said...

Oooh, such hatin' on the Boomers! I'm one, so let me defend my generation.

First off, Baby Boomers was an American phenomenon. Not every country had a similar demographic bulge. Chinese Boomers? German Boomers? Japanese Boomers? Boomers in Africa, India, Middle East, etc? Other countries took longer to recover from WW II before they got back to big-time breeding. But since the U.S. is the most important country in the world, the planetary cultural leaders, it's fair to analyse events through that lens. America sets the pace for this place.

Take yourselves back to the 50s, except you young pups weren't alive then. It was a conservative, conventional, stultifying time. Part of the rebuilding, wealth-accumulating phase of Elliot Wave theory. Then comes the explosion of free thought as the Boomers came of age. Throw off the old! Get rid of the rigid ideology of the suits! We don't need to follow your stinking rules just because our parents did it that way, which they did because THEIR parents... etc.

It was a time of new dawns, of rock 'n' roll and 1964 1/2 Mustangs and freedom from the mental straightjacket. All of you post-Boomers who like the idea of being able to fuck before you get married -- thank Boomers. All of you who want to dress as you please, without needing a sports jacket to go into a restaurant -- thank Boomers. In fact, any of you who want to be non-conventional in most any way and still be accepted in society instead of being reviled -- thank Boomers.

So are things screwed up now? Yep. Is it because of Boomers? I say no -- it's because of rich, selfish people. Many of them were Boomers, true. I say it's less a reflection of their birth period than it is of the economic class. People who have money will always want to grab more, even if they're Boomers.

As a few people pointed out upthread, there were lots of conservatives in the Boomer period. Bill Clinton was a Boomer. So was George Bush. Bit of a difference there, eh?

I'm proud I'm a Boomer. I dropped acid and smoked pot. Still do smoke, although not on days when I work, and I'd drop acid if I could find any that I trusted. I also got two college degrees, had two careers and am still working hard. I know other Boomers who are leeches. I take care of a lot of "Greatest Generation" people, some of whom are salt-of-the-earth, some of whom were always marginal waste cases.

Pegging the ills of current times on an entire generation is over-simplifying. It's also a sign of jealousy. Because we had it SOOOOO good! Too bad that you later people won't have the fat-of-the-land experience we did...

and can you believe the altruistic peace-and-love, rage-against-the-man hippie generation became the greedy, selfish, pre-emptive war, pollute-the-world, bankrupt-the-children generation?

If you accept that hippies weren't actually altruistic it makes the puzzle much simpler. Raging against the man was just fashion to them. Back in the day it was all self indulgence with drugs and music, just as it is now. With them it's always been "i'm going to do what i want and i don't care about the consequences for other people." It's just now that they're older they don't have such a problem saying it to your face.

So, it should be no surprise that the world they've built has turned out like it has. Of course they're going to get to eat sh_t sandwiches with the rest of us, so no point in getting too angry about it. Party on!

Anonymous said...

TARP is the epitome of the boomer mentality...who cares about the consequences as long as it fixes it now, now, now.

TARP had to be sold like a McMansion though. On its face the rationality of it being too much money made the boomers hesitant...then they added granite countertops (possible systemic meltdown) and brought in the mortgage broker selling the NINJA (Bernanke and Paulson) and they were sold.

Never mind the consequences of doing it. Boomers never thought about the future and what might happen. Well when the NINJA reaches 125% LTV and the payment triples, they'll realize...maybe.

Don't even think about the consequences for a CHANCE to avoid systemic meltdown. Not that anyone even speculated on what that might mean, it just sounded scary.

My god if it were guaranteed to prevent whatever malaise might happen they would have been behind it 100%.

Good thread, few comments:

1) McCain is a throwback to the greatest generation. He ran a sh*t campaign, run by his boomer advisers, but he's a good man, just got led astray

2) Instead of the boomers here hating on people who call boomers what they are, they should simply admit it - their generation was sh*t, and hurt America. It's like germans who were against the Nazis. Just admit it. But remember, you were complicit. You saw your generation doing terrible things, and you went along with it. Prescription Drug Benefit? Sure! $55 trillion deficit passed on to your kids? Sure! Pre-emptive wars? Sure! Disco? Sure!

3) On Clinton and W being the only boomer presidents, it's a good point. Look where those two got us. Two massive feels-good bubbles, massive structural debt, and a loss of American moral character. Yup. Nice job. No more boomer presidents. It should be a job disqualification.

It is the Illuminati’s fault, i.e., their power grab and greed.

I want to talk more about this.
From reading in here, it seems to me like baby-boomer's kids, are more sucessful, well educated and intelligent by the time they are 30, then we ever dreamed of being. It was still frowned upon for women to go to college or hold a job even in the 70's.
What scares me tho, is that they are wanting something, anything to happen to break thru the un-interesting monotonous straight-jacket that has inevitably become their cross to bear. Because times like the 60's only come around every 50 years or so (was kind of like the roaring 20's) and it seems like they almost want something terrible to happen.
It's only natural to hate what your parents are or stand for, because each generation has been better educated and exposed to an entirely different culture then the one before.
I guess I am making sweeping generalities.
Mama may have and papa may have but
God bless the child who has his own.
That's the way I have always lived my life.
Just get on with it, TRY to do no harm, and you will be old too someday, and there is a lot of peace there...for some reason... something happens to your brain, and a lot of the nervous energy disolves. Envy, anger, jealousy subside and you find youself happy just doing regular things.
Whatever.

Every generation is self-centered ,but to suggest that the entire generation was nothing but a hippie-feast is wrong .

Most generations rebel a little against the man and than conform because they have to make a living .It's called starving if you don't go along .

Your acting like the WORLD War II
Generation didn't control policy for at least 55 of the last 70 years .

You act like Gen. x and Y aren't rebelling and those generations are not a selfish I want mine people also. The greed and selfishness you speak of is a human thing ,not a generation thing no matter how the younger generations want to throw Baby Boomers under the bus ,or kill them off early ,so they can get their jobs and money .

Has it every occurred to you that Big Business and the Fat Cats with their ongoing corruption is the culprit, along with human nature always screwing things up . In 1929 it was Wall Street that set the people up for the big crash .

Look at how the people were freed from Egypt ,but when the man went to get the rules ,they started to party hardy .

You act like the Baby Boomers didn't have to deal with stupid wars like Viet Nam and other crazy hold-overs from the Depression and War year generations .

The Baby Boomers were told in the 50's that they should get bomb shelters .The Baby Boomers rebelled and said "Give Peace a chance ." The Baby Boomers were told to fight in Viet Nam ,and it just didn't seem right ,so they rebelled .Look at how the corrupt Politicians don't care what the people want .

If you want to blame anything ,blame the abuse of money and greed being the root of all evil .

These posts do not address the fact that many generation x and y clowns were buying many houses and speculating while they thought they would sell to a greater fool .The Whole World was brainwashed into this housing Ponzi scheme and the ones that have lost the most are the Baby Boomers for their folly .

No, the majority of Baby Boomers are not going to be fat cats in retirement when all the losses are finally tolled .

And if you think Medicare pays for very much your crazy . After the first couple thousand dollars they start socking it to you. The system sucks and its not what its cracked up to be . So what if they give you 20 days in a Hospital ,after that your screwed . Expensive drugs aren't paid for . I have Medicare and I still have to pay 8 thousand a year for a family member ,yea ,right, sure, free Medical ,only if you take a few cheap drugs a year,and they still take about a 100 a month from the Social Security . Its a racket ,but if your low income you can apply for welfare medical care and by the time its approved your dead .

While I agree that the system needs a overhaul so younger generations are not screwed out of their rightful due , I also
think that you have to realize that Boomers were just as brainwashed into going along with the system that has failed them also .

I'm a Gen-Xer, who's has been a complete outcast because I'd derided the housing run up as asset bubble II, since Nasdaq 5K.

So in effect, no one in my generation believed me so I'm inclined to believe that both X's and Yer's are a full of idiots whose parents spoiled them as children with trips to Europe, Video Game consoles, and lots of regular presents, as a way of keeping up with the Jones.

My parent's gave me very little of the above. My first transcontinental trip was from my first corporate job (age 22), and they flew me from the Northeast to Cali and I'd squeezed a half week "Venice Beach" vacation out of it. Well, from there on, I was able to do things which other kids took for granted that their parents would do for them, every year.

"Even the good boomers took it lying down.

And that was the problem.

They should have stood up and been counted. And they did not."

I'm not so sure they took it lying down! Boomers were being hurt and killed in political protests, not shopping for XBoxes on Black Friday. When the war waned, the "good boomers" were pushing on string, politically speaking, so true believers either formed enclaves, dropped back in and tried to do things within the system, or got desperate and started blowing stuff up, e.g.

"You could not be a moral person with the means to act, and stand still.... To stand still was to choose indifference. Indifference was the opposite of moral."
-Bill Ayers

This is a multigenerational shitty society. Please, let Paul Begala be an idot by himself--no more scapegoating based on some arbitrary designation.

The reason why is because we watched all of the fighters get killed( JFK, RFK, MLK, X, etc.) No more volunteers after that. To quote the immortal Jeffrey Lebowski "the bums lost!"

My fellow boomers who enjoyed the good life are coming up to cliff. I am 61 and the leading edge of my group. I saw the light and changed my lifestyle to a more frugal and healthy one. Those boomers who continue to indulge inthe Tuscan food, Napa Wine and Food Channel gourmet treats, and those with the extravagant lifestyle, will die and die early. The lifestyle is like the last days of Rome and no amount of statin or plavix will save them. Your wishes will come true. And those who don't die will be home bound with diabetes or other disabilities. My compadres have no clue.

Bukko_in_Australia:
"First off, Baby Boomers was an American phenomenon. Not every country had a similar demographic bulge. Chinese Boomers? German Boomers? Japanese Boomers? Boomers in Africa, India, Middle East, etc?"

You'd better get cracking correcting the Wikipedia article, then...
"Many European countries, Australia and New Zealand also experienced a baby boom. In some cases the total fertility rate almost doubled."...
"* France 1946–1974
* United Kingdom 1946–1971
* Finland 1945–1950
* Germany 1955-1967
* Sweden 1946–1952
* Denmark 1946–1950
* Netherlands 1946–1972
* Ireland 1946–1982
* Iceland 1946–1969
* New Zealand 1946–1965
* Australia 1946–1965"

I know it's cool to hate the USA, but you've got to be more selective with your topics...maybe some with no data behind them?

I would have to agree that the Baby Boomers had a better job based to choose from than current generations .But who took away the job base that should of grown as the population grew . Wages should of gone up ,not out-sourced to other countries along with the manufacturing base .

Bring jobs back to America ,and I mean with decent wages and that begins to solve part of the problem . Did Baby boomers squander the good fortune of having a good job based during prime earning years......yes I'm sure the Boomers thought the system would continue and continue and not crash . Yes Boomers were consumers ,but that created jobs ,but than the debt economy screwed everything up in large part along with kooky globalism .
Don't blame the younger generations at all for being pissed ,but how would you like to be older and lose your money .

It doesn't matter ,the problems need to be solved and the very clowns that created the current crash are the ones looting by bail-outs . Biggest crime cover-up in history .
