Keith,

I grew up in Berkeley in the 60's, and remember as a little kid how totaly pissed off people were. Pissed of and high. Now everyone here is on SSRIs and 52 inch TVs. No outrage or feelings at all as they hurtle towards the brick wall. Dude, we are STILL IN THE DELUSIONAL PHASE!

It is therefore with great pleasure I see your WORLD PANIC features in the righthand panels. It gives me great hope that at lease SOME people are really pissed off. I think one of the most interesting items in this century will be the psycohistory of Americans finally waking up. This is what I hope your blog will continue to explore and document. What is the role of TV? SSRIs? High fat high carb low protein diets? Lack of weed smoking? Why won't the American public wake the fuck up?

Anyway, just another thanks for what you do.

I don't understand why Americans have taking it lying down these past eight years, especially the college students.

Good god, what do you need to get out there and protest? We conducted an illegal war. We tortured. The nations' treasure was stolen by a corrupt cabal of bankers. The economy has fallen off a cliff. Millions are losing their jobs.

And yet, no protests. No building takeovers. No disturbances. Nothing.

It's weird.

I think it has something to do with Ultimate Fighting Championships, Sarah Palin and video games. The US public has been so dumbed down, that they're barely functioning anymore.

I think the final ugly truth about W is that he so perfectly reflected America during this period. He is America and America his him. Out-of-touch, insensitive, borish, stupid, big hearted in talk but selfish and self-centered in action. Ego-delusional to the point of absurdity. Entitled. Smug. I am just waiting for him to lead us in singing "let us eat cake".

Evidently there are 22% of us who still have their head up their ass. I hope they are enjoying the warm pink glow.

As for Obama. He so reminds me of Morgan Freeman in "Deep Impact" I suspect that a comet has to be heading toward Earth. Perhaps the Federal Reserve will just buy it and therefor move it off its course.

Prepare for the "Get Real" decade.

I was listening to npr in the car yesterday. They were doing a segment where they had a voicemailbox to obama that listeners called into and left messages.

The part that I listened to focussed on 'the arts'. They had a clip where obama said that he and michelle had thought a lot about what musicians they would have at the white house and the poetry readings they would have.

All the listeners whose messages npr played had suggestions for government support of writers, artists, dancers and music lessons for all kids.

All the messages showed some great expectations of forced redistribution of taxpayer money so that these people never have to grow up, so that they can be paid to have play-time to dance and sing and everyone can applaud them and worship them. It turned my stomach.

I'm going to support Obama since he's now the president and I consider myself a team player. When Obama calls for a little sacrifice for the good of the country then I am there.

But I am very worried that there are so many people that have fashioned Obama in their own image - they have made him the genius that will finally appreciate their own little fantasies.

There is a strong delusional current running through so much of the expectations placed upon a man whose power is very limited.

Here I am sitting at my window looking out, picking my nose, gazing at the falling snowflakes.
My heart filed with fear of what to do with my future.
I’ve spent the last 8 years blaming Bush and bashing the US and all this has come to a screeching halt, thanks to our savior with his ‘big message of yes we can’
I said I wanted ‘Change’ but did not expect to lose my purpose in life.

Without blaming Bush and bashing the US I am lost.

Any suggestions?

Keefer me neither,

I am so excited about this inauguration. I have to work that day, but I hope I can get in front of a tv at noon to witness this historic event. I agree with whoever said we will now enter the "Get Real" decade. It's damn time to get real. I believe Obama is as real as politicians get and I believe he will live up to his commitments. As for why Americans have laid back and put up with what's happened in the past ten years, I agree that we have been dumbed down and anesthetized. We need to look at old videos of Kent State and read about the Berrigans and Mitch Snyder and activists of the past who did have the courage to stand up against what they believed were wrongs. We have forgotten how to protest. Or maybe we have lost our ideals of how things should be.

Keith, the problem is that Obama isn't changing anything. He has shown his hand by his long time political hack appointments. His choice to do a massive bailout of Mayoral pet projects and union interest. His time has come, but unfortunately he is failing miserably so far from what I see for very bad choices he has and is still continuing to make.

The masses praised Obama and are looking at him with glazed over eyes like clueless children. When he fails to deliver they will quickly turn on him and the entire administration. Remeber that our Democratically controlled Congress has near single digit approval ratings. Can you say scape goat number one?

I do not see any good coming down the line and especially once Obama's stimulus plan passes. That will ensure a miserable 4 year term for Obama and his cabinet. He won't be getting re-elected after the mess he creates. This is his gig now and if things get worse it is going to be on him.

Oh that’s right the hoity toity snot nosed violent barbaric haven’t Ok’ed our self-defense against Islamo fascism.

Why do you belittle so many committed and devoted Jihadists?
What makes you think you are smarter then those who re-affirm there purpose and goals each day, - ‘5 times’ each day.

What gives you the right to twist the Holy imams sermon, which clearly articulates the West’s arrogant demise in a Fatwa.

So let me see if I get your logic.

Defending ourselves from religious extremist in the most humane way is bad.
But violent rioting against civilians (working mothers and fathers Realtors and mortgage brokers) is what Americans aught to be doing.

Everything would have been very different had we used the military tactics of our enemy’s, there would be no whining of discomfort or torture, they would be were they want us to be – cold meat.

Americans stand up every time when it’s right

Americans will not go and destroy their own fellow citizens when times get tough.

Only small minded reactionary people turn to violence when thing don’t go their way.

Americans will not hesitate to fight for a greater cause, like all the wars in our history.

Love this line Paul!

"There is a strong delusional current running through so much of the expectations placed upon a man whose power is very limited"

That sentence right their captures the problem this country will soon have to face. Once many people realize he is not their savior nor could he realistically ever have been, they will be in the despair part of the chart. That is when you will begin to see people act out. That time is coming on fast and this latest "bad bank" idea is just going to add more fuel to the eventual fire.

Keith and Anonymous (Deep Impact)

I'm 65 in March, and I think America has been asleep pretty much always.Maybe not so much during the last Depression.

Re Obama/Deep Impact: we have a theory in our family that when you see several movies telling the same story over years, it probably is an example of the collective unconscious at work and it will happen. Before the election results we all wondered if Obama won, would Deep Impact happen (never mind that 3 in our family have dreampt of an object hurtling toward earth several times over 40 years). And have you noticed the stance of Morgan Freeman in the basement of the white house where he's talking to Tea Leoni's character? His arms are folded just like the Madame Tusseau (Sp?) wax figure of Obama.

Don't worry, the anger is there, and surprisingly enough a lot of it's in the baby boomer +/- a few years generation..but I think it's something like this: oh, cr*p, you mean we have to go through something else before we get to drop dead? We've lived long enough to have seen lies come and come again, get more brazen, seen things get ever more bizarre, though the McCarthy stuff was pretty bizarre..I was 8 during the year it was worst;I was a bright little girl and watched the news and read the newspaper and of course we had the movies. We do not want to do that again. I kind of thought we were headed that way with the Republican platform under Newt Gingrich.( Lord, what did we have on him? He just disappeared into thin air without a word of protest.)That McCarthy BS ruined people, even in dull, ordinary neighborhoods.

You know, after the Depression and the War, and the Korean War, and the Vietnam war, I think people grasped at moments of ordinariness. Enough food, shelter, clothing, a little to look forward to but credit made everyone get carried away. Too bad.

We have in our culture a strong streak of "let's not think, it hurts my head"...I've found thinking only when it comes up against a cultural or family paradigm and you don't recognize it. Literally. When you are thinking because you want to, it's amazing how deep you can go.

Keith,
Off-topic, but there is an interesting video about British bank insolvency and how the article stating this was removed.

Here is the video. He provides links the original video, plus others where the article was grabbed.
British banks are ‘technically insolvent’
“Britains biggest banks are “technically insolvent”, Royal Bank of Scotland said yesterday, as the global banking industry was rocked by another day of turmoil, including the announcement of $23bn (£16bn) of new losses from Merrill Lynch and Citigroup, the giant US institutions.

The Obama administration already has plans to create a bad bank with government money that will buy up worthless Wall Street securities at face value. It was a terrible idea when Paulson first proposed for TARP it and it still is. Even more taxpayer money going down the drain for the benefit of the rich.

Add to that another $850billion "stimulus" that will do no good, but will indebt another generation. Hmmm, I think Bush tried a stimulus already - didn't work, did it?

Oh, and he's not changing anything in Iraq or Afgahnistan either. And not closing Guantanamo right away. And Sheila Bair is expected to stay on at the FDIC. And we're going to worry about the federal deficit "later". I guess deficits still don't matter.

I voted for this guy because he ran on a platform of Change. What a disappointment. Obama is giving us Clinton's people and Bush's policies. I'm disillusioned already.

Sums it up perfect, but I am not sure about the "Get Real" part unless we actually get really hungry. Even if an asteroid cometh, we will want to get the granite, travertine and hickory in place because after the asteroid hits there will only be obsidian.

Actually obsidian is kinda cool. It is black and looks like granite without the little confetti specks.

Then we can default on the VISA and HELOC after Deep Impact.

A bankrupt economy, the Constitution in tatters and two unfinished wars. This is the George Bush presidential legacy.

But are better times coming? As I anxiously await the Obama coronation ceremonies, I am reminded of this:

The process of leading cattle to the slaughter is aided by the use of a "decoy animal." At some meat processing plants, a trained steer is employed to lead cattle into the slaughter pen. The decoy animal enters the chute leading the slaughter pen and the naive cattle follow confidently. Once inside, the decoy steer is taken out by a side exit and the unsuspecting cattle are then slaughtered.

I have to laugh at the "Obama is the saviour" meme. It's only right-wingers who are saying that. I read mostly left-wing blogs, and none of the lefties have high hopes for him; just the belief that Obama will be better than the murderous, incompetent kleptocrats of the Bush Crime Family. Most leftists are already irritated with Obama because he's too far to the right.

"Obama = saviour" seems to be projection of the Right's mindset. You right-wingers seem to think that anyone who supports a political leader must be all-in, a total member of the "cult of the leader." No room for nuance in your either/or psychology. That's why you're slavishly devoted to Bush, like he's your guru, and fervently opposed to the man who dethroned your Kool-aid dispenser.

Leftists aren't like that. There might be some starry-eyed types, but most of us can see shades of gray. I expect Obama will try to manage America's descent like Chesley Sullenberger did with the U.S. Air flight that landed in the Hudson. Bush/McCain would have determinedly flown on, no matter what the "reality based community" said about how both their engines had blown up, until America crashed and burned. But I, and others who think like me, don't expect Obama is going to make a powerless Airbus suddenly do aerobatics.

So stop trying to act like left-wingers are infected with YOUR thought-virus, right-wingers.

As for why college-aged kids don't revolt, I can only point to my daughter as an example. She's well-educated and left-wing. She knows that things are crappy. But to her, it's like a game. Something unreal. Ironic. She comes from a life of privilege, courtesy of my ex-wife's rich family, and has never had to struggle. Only when the money runs out will it become serious to her.

The same can be said for most Americans. There's still a lot of fat left in the land. People are not mean and hungry. They don't operate at a conceptual level of "there's something wrong here." It hasb't affected enough of them personally to reach critical mass in society. So they stay asleep. When the fridge is empty and the little light inside doesn't come on because they haven't paid the power bill, that's when the light will finally dawn inside their heads.

Like Mish says "you can't patch a leaking dam with water", which is exactly what obama plans on trying to do with his deficit spending. I don't understand why Americans have taking it lying down these past eight years, especially the college students.

____________

I think it's because EVERYBODY TALKS SO MUCH ABOUT EVERYTHING and that somehow takes the place of doing anything.
Back when Chet Huntley and David Brinkley reported the news at 5:30 every night, THAT WAS IT. There was no way to talk, to unite, except in college classrooms, then to take it to the streets.
YOu know how if you talk, tell someone a secret, it's not a burden anymore. Same with the internet. People just sit on their butts and vent.
Gets it out of their system.
My take on it anyway.

college kids don't protest because their lives are just fine.
============================

AND, unlike the Viet Nam era, college kids are not being DRAFTED and sent far away to die. Times are bad, so the armed forces can actually afford to be selective about whom it takes into the service. Start yanking their privileged butts outta classrooms and put a rifle in their hands over in sand hell, and you will see your protests real quick!

============================
============================

A "decoy animal?" OMG! Political correctness now covers animals. LMAO

The correct term is JUDAS GOAT, used back when an actual goat was used to start the cattle up the ramp. It can apply to any animal used for such a purpose.

Right-wing nutjobs are a hoot.

Again, why should we be getting the nose bloody for a bunch of welfare parasites and pot smokers from Cali, whose main purpose in life is dreaming about new rims or iPhone widgets? F*ck that.

I couldn't care less for this new Gen Y-ner of spoiled a$$holes. Let them shovel snow, 8 months a year, from their solar panels while praising for Al Gore's fairy-tales of fuzzy bears drowning.

And by repeating what I wrote, you amplify me! I'm honoured, mate.

The former union parasite from Cali is now faking Aussie, with his constant "mate" this and "mate" that. Taxpayer leeches, I tell you.

Clearly our true character was revealed by how we behaved during our time of comfort and ease.

Uh-oh, excuse me for bringing up some logic and common sense, since this is the new America, but you can't have it both ways:

You either say that Americans are slaves for working more than 40-hour workweeks, or you say they're a bunch of lazy fat a$$es. Sorry, can't have both.

Glad to help.

If Obama doesn't speak loudly and clearly about the massacre in Gaza tomorrow, just forget him, he will be usless as a peacemaker and hell bent on more of the Bushco endless war horror.

And... the reason that Bushco and ilk will never be prosecuted or held accountable is because they so perfectly represented the citizenry of the USA. They are us. How can we assign blame to them when we are all guilty of the same behavior????? Greed.

If we are going to prosecute them, then we need to bring back Debtor's Prisons for the masses.

I don't understand why Americans have taking it lying down these past eight years, especially the college students.

On second thought, we DID do something about it. We elected the right person for president. People got out and voted in umprescedented numbers.
We didn't just let the smart guy, the one with the insight and youth to lead us out of this mess, just go back to his ineffectual senate seat in Chicago.
WE DIDN'T vote in the lame, mediocre, old man-child, predictable, unimaginative, low IQ, but up until mow, THE ONLY choice of the powers that are, but are fading fast.
So we did do something. Probably the best thing we could have done. We voted and changed history.

(sigh) as usual you have your own little twist on things regarding what "hath been foretold":
#1 wasn't a prediction, it was "Hope" with BOs picture and nothing else
#2 was a question asking what people thought
#3 I'll give you - now that is a specific reference. Just like your Al Gore prediction - http://tinyurl.com/9646ye - in Nov. 2006. There's also you not sure and guessing in Jan. 2008 - http://tinyurl.com/9w6xts - among others...but we can forget about those 'inconvenient truths'.

I have NEVER been unhappy having less. I have only been unhappy when stupid people (media and other idiots in everyday life) made me feel like I WAS LESS AS A PERSON for having less.

And I don't think Bush reflected the people of this nation. But his being the president, and the stupid way he acted, destoyed morale to the extent, that many just gave up and jumped in the neverending morass of ineptitude he created.

As if Rafael LĂłpez doing underground leftist portraits is not enough.

C'mon left nuts, lets see how well you can do. Its all ON YOU NOW STARTING TOMORROW. Don't start tearing your man down yet because he is not even in office.

And to think Barney Frank was calling everyone a racist not giving loans to poor people. Sheesh.

Debtors' Prison...hummmm

Perhaps we could build a big fence around Detroit, deposit our debtors there. They can leave when it's all cleaned up.
Ditto New Orleans.

You will be able to measure the difference between BO's affect on the economy and GWB's by the rate of inflation - and the associated opposition Congressional Republican's make to Democrat spending proposals.

FDR made it worse.

I'm not sure if you have noticed, but there's an impressive paradox here: Without Bush, a black Barack Hussein Obama would never get elected in the US.

Call me when you retards are ready for a third party. Until then, the shady group (aka Illuniati) will be having lots of fun f*cking you in the a$$. Enjoy your Messiah, sheeple.

Anonymous said...

To all my fellow Americans out there who refused to take the bluepill, and I know we're a few but growing group, I thank you for not buying into the Messiah or McCain hype.

I know it's a scary sight to see how easy it was to convert so many sheeple so fast, almost to the point of becoming a hysterical cult. We know they're well funded right now, after transferring so much wealth with their engineered financial crisis. But we'll prevail someday in kicking the Illuminati out for good.

Excellent idea. Just returned from a Habitat/Humanity Work Party. We need to give the debt slaves some crow bars and hammers and show them their new "Work Release" program. Sweat equity could also solve our obesity problem. I love the demolition phase. Can't wait for the first granite countertop to meet the end of my 12lb sledge hammer.

And one of the most insightful things I have read on any blog is the comment by Anonymous:
"I think it's because EVERYBODY TALKS SO MUCH ABOUT EVERYTHING and that somehow takes the place of doing anything."

And the Internet just makes that all the more possible and convenient.
It's a great thing but is it really immobilizing us somewhat?

I don't know why liberals are so upset at Bush. He did so many things that they supported like the prescription drug program, more money for education with No Child Left Behind, supporting affirmative action, supporting Title IX, spending tons of money (yes, some on military but a lot on non-military), supporting amnesty for tens of millions of illegal aliens, supporting the Left's desire to give people houses they don't deserve, and so on and so on.

Really, I don't understand this primitive hatred people like Bukko have for him. Ok, you could claim to have some grounds for your hatred because of the Iraq War and his supreme court picks, but can that really account for your total disgust, stridency, and intolerance of the man? Go back and look at the things Bush did and you will see that other than your opposition to the Iraq War he really did do a lot of things that support your side. Certainly, he did more to support the beliefs of those left of center than he did for those who are right of center; indeed, he completely screwed over the conservatives.

Take a step back and review his total record. I am sure you will think he did a good job.

As for Obama, he was the most leftist senator in the congress. If Bukko and his friends think even the most leftist senator is still a right winger then it says a lot more about Bukko han it does about Obama. Indeed, having had an easy life by living off his wife's family's fortune, Bukko can count himself as a typical limousine libeal: that is, one who feels well-off enough and secure about his future that he can AFFORD to be liberal.

Again, take a look at Bush's record, he's more like you than you think.
