Yeah. I never thought I'd be saying this, but I think Obama could do more damage in four years than Bush did in eight. We thought the media gave Bush a free pass. They are giving Obama and company a tailwind. Obama was just the perfect front man for the corporate Democrats just like Bush was the perfect front man for the neo-cons. Sure, Obama is smarter than Bush, more thoughtful and would dominate Bush in any sort of intelligence test, but he is now a company man, body and soul. The only possible hope is that the rest of the world won't hate us quite so much as they do now. While our corporations will still be exploiting third world countries, our foreign policy won't be quite so insane.
These stimulus programs are just handouts to large corporations. By the end of 2010, I think we will see the end of most small businesses and a serious decline in the standard of living of the middle class. The government programs and new cabinet positions being put in place will never go away.
We need Peter Schiff to stop pimping his brokerage firm (of which I am a client) and personal ego and go on a mission to save this country. Seriously, no one else articulates the free market argument better. The personal commercials ruin his credibility. He has the connections with the media outlets. He speaks well. I love Ron Paul, but Schiff packs more punch.
If Obama had some balls and wanted to stimulate the economy he could:
1. End the war on drugs and give all the money he saved back to people in tax cuts.
2. Instead of giving banks $750 billion, the government just loaned all of that money directly to small businesses. That's 75,000 $10-million dollar loans to new businesses. If there were 75,000 new businesses don't you think some of them would develop into something a lot better than General Motors.
3. Pull our troops out of every foreign country. Give the soldiers who need it severance packages that re-train them to do civil projects. All those guys rebuilding Iraq, send them to rebuild Detroit. (They already know how to build in a war zone.)

I'm sorry. I hate Bush as much as the next guy but Team Obama is not looking any smarter or less corrupt than BushCo at this point:

Can you imagine how much house that buys? How very very sweet for them. They better get outta town ahead of the torches and pitchforks. I say whatever the hell Obama can do to just keep this leaky tub afloat is worthy of our intense gratitude and praise.

They all think that all they need to do is spend like drunken sailors and they can stimulate away any and all recessions.
And they all think the government can do a better job at running things than anyone else, and hence the government should run a planned economy.

Schiff said in an interview that he voted for RON PAUL. As pointless as that may seem it is a matter of PRINCIPLE not picking the winning horse or the lesser of two evils BS.
Schiff was an adviser to Ron Paul.
Remember, HP endorsed RP for the GOP nod before he even decided to run. Probably one of the first in the nation to do so.
But after McCain wrapped up the GOP, the choice was McCain or Obama. And a choice for president has never been easier than that. McCain/Palin was unacceptable, and a worldwide laughingstock.
Those of you who wasted your vote on Ron Paul or a write-in or 3rd part in the general, great, congrats, you protested but you wasted your vote.
Wasting votes in 2000 on Nader is what caused the Iraq war and this fiscal meltdown. It may be noble, but it's stupid.
And upon reflection, Ron Paul was unwilling or unable to take on the GOP. Maybe he's too old. Maybe he didn't have that fire in the belly.
Let's hope that 2010 and 2012 throw us some surprises. I don't see anyone on the horizon though. It'll be Obama through 2016. And the idiots in Congress who got us into this mess will stay on.

Ultimately voting is a waste of time in this media mind-controlled society but you went way beyond simpy picking the lesser of two evils between McCain and Obama.
I still remember all of your gushing posts where you praised and lauded Obama as the second coming.
And everyone else who frequents your blog does too.
The point is that voting is meaningless. Until the people rise up, get organized, get involved in the political process rather than simply voting every four years then we will only have these corporate controlled lackeys in office.
Alas, that takes a lot of effort from the public and I really don't think the public has that in them.

obama says he will create 3 million jobs with his 800B stimulus package.
I say, is that it? only 3 million?
800 billion could pay 3 million people 40k per year for over 6 years to do nothing. heck, the government would recover 20% that back in taxes.
but it matters not. deficit spending won't really "create" jobs. he is just "pushing forward" work that would have eventually been done anyway. publicly traded companies get in trouble for making more stuff than they can sell and then claiming revenue when they ship the unwanted stuff to distributors.

Keith, sometimes I think you're as clueless as Andrew Sullivan. Obama is a puppet, the salesman to a powerful group. What part of 2-party system don't you understand? When you have just two parties, it's easy for a powerful group to maintain power, independent of who's the president. They pick the next president, not the sheep. Go it?
That's why I don't have high hopes for a serious revolution in this country. Amazing how easy it was to brainwash all the American people AGAIN (first with Bush) into thinking that now we have a Messiah who's going to change things.
