Here's President Obama, failing again to announce the arrest of Angelo Mozilo. Oh, and some remarks on reducing the defict

Nice to hear him talk about confronting the deficit.

Talk is cheap.

Raising the retirement age to 72 and pulling our troops from every nation on earth, now that would get my attention.

  5. I really wish people who say things like "pulling troops from...blah blah blah" could get a preview of what isolationism would be like. Unfortunately I don't think we would ever fully recover from such an illadvised move. As far as Obama is concerned your right. Talk is cheap and his credibility on fiscal responsibility is equal to that of a career criminal telling me he won't do it again. The Silent Majority

  9. Obama's refreshing, no doubt. But not radical enough. I agree with Keith about the Social Security age reform. My mom is 76 and still goes to work at her office job every day. My dad is 77 and although he is retired, he has a part time job and lots of hobbies and stays very busy. All of this activity has kept them young and healthy I believe. My parents eat pretty healthily and keep their weight down, and I realize not all people in their 70's have that kind of energy, but maybe if we all lay off the cheezdoodles and five-pound burgers we can do it too. It's time to stop being lazy and kept and think about how to contribute to our own survival.

  10. Somebody needs to give Mr. Hope a five-minute crash course on leadership. The fact that he even addressed this pitiful gathering tells me he has no clue. He sounded like a counselor at one of those $99 motivation seminars for new hires.

Can you imagine Vladimir Putin or Ronald Reagan giving this kind of pep talk? Obama diminishes his stature daily with dumb moves like this one. The man needs professional help.

  11. It is ironic that first, with little more than the stroke of a pen, Obama doubles the budget deficit, and then pledges to spend the remainder of his 4 year term trying to cut the deficit in half.

Obama may very well be the first black president, but it is looking increasingly likely that he is also the second Jimmy Carter; smart and compassionate, but completely misguided.

  13. How dumb are politicians, and how much dumber are the voters???

The definition of stimulus is unfunded spending. Reducing the deficit is anti-stimulus.

Now I happen to think the stimulus stuff is garbage, but can't they at least not claim to be doing two exdactly opposite things...

  14. A good speech. People need to realize he is a politician and talks a good bit of bull but he is doing a decent job with the hand he was dealt.

  15. "Nice to hear him talk about confronting the deficit.
    "

he's a man who can't tell us how many jobs will be saved and how many will be created....

he's a man who, a few weeks ago, said the stimulus bill was about spending money, not saving money.

    he's a confusing man.

  16. You come home from work and the wife has been shopping doubling your credit card debt and then announces that in four years she will spend less.

The rest of the world does not believe Obama on fiscal policy. Most of the world is happy America has a Milk Toast president. Obama might as well said he is working on a strong dollar policy and spending more money on national security.

It's not isolationism to withdraw troops from around the globe you dumb, slack-jawed yokel.

It is isolationist to have troops around the globe because it is antagonistic and threatening to other states around the world.

To bring troops back from around the world and simply trade freely with all nations and lead by example would be the exact opposite of isolationism.

It doesn't mean you will have a weak national defense. Before WWII the US did not have a massive military but it very quickly ramped up when it needed it because it had wealth, prosperity and the scientific development, manpower and manufacturing capacity. These are qualities that our bloated military budget only diminish today.

Is overthrowing foreign governments not isolationist? What has that given the US? Nothing but trouble. Why do you think there are radicalized Muslims that hate America? Because of our freedom and prosperity? Don't be a f*cking moron, pal.

The US military serves the elite, corporate interests and the influential Israel lobby. Go read the writings of influential geostrageists like the Neoconservative thinktank Project for the New American Century, Kissinger and Brzezinski (Obama's foreign policy advisor) where they are very open about what the purpose of these wars and militarism are all about. It's about aggressive global domination of territory and natural resources. It's not about protecting your freedoms dumbass.

America could promote trade and cultural ties to all nations of the world and lead by example by minimizing taxation and government spending to allow it's economy to prosper and to defend individual liberty. If America did that then it would be the "shining city on the hill".

The elites that run this nation will not allow that to happen.

  29. I like the part where he said we can cut the deficit, but it won't be EASY.....

.....No, genius, it won't be easy if you keep spending more and more and more, you get the idea, maybe not.

I noticed in his last news conference he would say one thing and then have to dance around what he said, so it would be palatable toward his spending ways, the Obama shuffle.

He actually said something to the effect that, there was an old school building where kids were still learning and then he had to Obama shuffle and said they still neaded an expensive new school anyway?

If they're learning in that school, do they really need all the bells and whistles to learn better? Maybe the school "was" a falling-down pile of rubble built in the stone-age, but, why do we think kids can only learn something in 4-star luxury accommodations?

The point is, if you're really serious about balancing the budget and bringing down deficit spending, then do it, or STFU.

  30. Speaking of inhaling cheesedoodles and 500 pound fat asses, I've come to an extremely disturbing conclusion recently, that 15% of men and 25% of 'women' in the US are too fat to wipe their asses.

"I suppose Mr. Obama is burdened with the knowledge that the economic truth is so much worse than he imagined back in November that there is simply nothing to do at this point except pretend to serve up a "tasting menu" of rescue plans in the hope that markets and mechanisms might be conned back into compliance with our wish keep getting something-for-nothing forever."

That gem is by Jim Kunstler! It's all there!! If you still don't understand the root of our ills, then you must go back and read the rescue plan over again!

  42. This guys popularity rating is dropping fast. Plenty of people in my community liked the guy. Can't find anyone now that likes him. No one will admit it. "Who me, I didn't vote for him, you must be thinking of her overthere."

The states and local govs are going bankrupt, the feds are bankrupt. They are not even able to figure out how to balance a budget and I am supposed to believe he can cut a deficit in half. The gov at all levels is collecting fewer and fewer taxes on a daily basis, they can try to collect more but the citizens are broke so good luck. They sure as hell aren't collecting much from sales tax, people need to be working not getting laid off to pay income tax, houses need to be purchased and paid for to collect property tax. Gov at all branch levels are collecting less revenue and this guy is spending like he can shit money. He can't shit money the only thing he can do is talk shit, walk shit, act like he is the shit, but when it comes down to it he should go lay down on the White House lawn and just be what he is, a peice of dog shit.

The Messiah will lead us out of the current depression AND also generate a $2 trillion surplus.

    The Messiah has spoken.

  48. I heard him say something to the effect of "we need/are going to get the banks lending again" and he brought up the "only raising taxes on people who make $250k" again. Then said he was going to address the deficit "that was left to him".

Correct me if I'm wrong but, I seem to remember Bush and the Repubs trying to stop the first $800 bill back in Oct?

Not defending Bush. Just saying Obama is no different, just another used car shuckster salesman. I shut it off.

Until Americans are really, truly ready to hear and face the truth, this is what we'll get. It's looking like that awakening is alot further off than I had hoped.
