This is a great speech and is not viewed nearly enough.
I had a high school teacher who required our class to do a presentation on different theories on who assassinated JFK, but he never showed us this video. It was '97 and youtube hadn't been invented yet, so that could be part of the reason.
The more times you watch this speech, it really drives home what an honorable man he was (outside of the bedroom) and how many power hungry people would have wanted him dead after seeing it.
Bush/Cheney's "Coalition of the Willing" is/was a manifestation of JFK's perceived threat.

Honorable? He was a politician. The thing that separates JKF from today's crowd of pols is the fact he was a Man in the broadest sense of the word. The elitist poseurs and dilettantes that walk the halls of power today left their balls in a jar somewhere.
A good measure of how far we have fallen is to consider that "liberal" is indeed a pejorative; especially when applied to JFK.
An even better yardstick is to hear conservatives themselves concede that they really aren't.
What are we left with? Corporate welfare lackeys who encourage us at each others' throats over horseshit.
That this nation thinks we can afford to dither over minuscule matters while we cannot balance our collective checkbook...

I had heard this one before (although I didn't recall it until I played the clip.) My interpretation was always that Kennedy was talking about communist conspiracies. I thought it was kinda McCarthyite. Listening to it in light of revelations about MIC finagling and business cabals, I might see it in a different light. (Although Com-symps still seem to be the most likely secret society.)
But communist fellow travelers vs. bankmaggot market manipulators... Which has done more damage to the U.S.?

My interpretation was that JFK was asking the press to consider national security. He didn't want the nation to become a secret society, but spies were able to get sensitive information just by reading a newspaper.

Never heard this speech. In light of what has happened since this speech, it puts the past and present into clear focus.
The power to which he alluded to silenced him, staged 9/11, and now rules the world via the financial mafia. Power has been consolidated and control is tightening.

The U.S. Congressmen within our Democratic Party are like the false prophets of old, willing to say whatever their political backers wish to hear. They are like Absalom, the ancient King David's son, who conspired in the gates by telling people whatever might win their hearts. Does anyone remember all the glowing promises made before their elections? Does anyone care? Obama-mania has swept the land, but is starting to find it's place in the gutter. Why? It is more political deception for which the people are quickly growing tired of hearing as false promises.
On the other hand, we as Democrats of the Democratic Party must focus first on the radical agenda, and show how dangerous it is. Under the direction of President Obama, our Congressmen within the Democratic Party are setting in place measures intended to ensure the domination of socialist liberals in the political system for decades.
Furthermore, Nancy Pelosi and her fellow socialist liberals in Congress have made enormous changes in the level of government spending and power. They have repealed welfare reform, set us on course to socialized health care, put an energy policy in place that will drastically increase our gas and electricity costs and cripple industry, and are waging war on productive people and businesses. A recent Newsweek cover declared, "We are all socialists now."
These are only some of the measures our Democratic Party representatives in Congress have put in place, and we have never had such an assault on the foundations of our individual Liberty and Freedom within this country.
Altogether, we see our U.S. Congressmen within the Democratic Party for what they are, and as members of the Democratic Party we could have only once hoped our U.S. Congressmen would of impassioned themselves to the words of our founding fathers. On the other hand, we as Democrats should remember the words of William Samuel Johnson, "Patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels."
