The 28th, 29th and 30th Amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America

The government of the United States is broken.

The corrupted US Congress, and the disgusting political-hack-stacked Supreme Court can't, and won't, fix it.

So it's time for the people to take it into their own hands, and get it done.

Seriously.

It's time to get it done.

It's time to amend the Constitution.

(a little help with the language from any lawyer-types appreciated)

28th Amendment

Legislation passed by 50% plus one vote of the seated members of each chamber by the House of Representatives and the Senate and then signed by the President shall become law.

29th Amendment

Senators shall serve a maximum term of two six year terms without the ability to be re-elected to the Senate in their lifetimes. Representatives shall serve a maximum of five two year terms without the ability to be re-elected to the House of Representatives in their lifetimes. Supreme Court Justices shall serve a maximum of 10 years without the ability to be re-appointed to the Supreme Court in their lifetimes.

30th Amendment

Only Natural Born Citizens (Individuals) of the United States shall be able to contribute financially to United States political campaigns or political parties or political interest groups or political advertising, or directly to any candidate for any political office in the United States, on any level or by any method, with financial contribution limits and penalties for disregard to be determined regularly by Congress for national political offices and by State legislatures for State political offices.

They have to enforce the Constitution as it already exists. This is the problem. That's the platform of the Tea Party. Duh.

28 - Stupid. Doesn't protect from a tyranny of the majority and would give us more freedom sapping legislation. I like gridlock just fine thank you.

30 - Good idea

31 - I think campaign finance issues are overblown... but OK

I would also be happy with house/senate being able to serve more than 2 terms, but not consecutively.

Also, perhaps a standard election pool fund? Want to support your local election? Fine, money goes into a pool that all candidates split equally, and are unable to spend any other money.

Awesome!..

Suggested Addendum:

- All lobby groups representing foreign governments must be registered as such. All lobbyists, domestic and foreign, shall have no right to propose, introduce, or coerce neither Congress nor the Government to accept known activists as members of the Congressional or the Government staff.

- Government Officers shall not be allowed, after retirement, to accept paying positions from any corporation or subsidiary thereof, if the Officer's governmental job was related in any way, be it directly or indirectly, to the business dealings of such corporations.

Remark: As you know, the US Government is one of the most corrupt governments in the world. The difference between corruption in third world countries and the US is that corruption is institutionalized and made legal by way of complex and dubious Congressional legislations under the cover of free speech and other constitutional rights.

There is a movement to amend the constitution to non-allow corportions to participate or fund campaigns. It is called movetoamend.org!

I think this is what you are looking for!

Additional, necessary law that needs to be put into place:

Once out of Congress, no representative of either house shall be able to lobby the government or members of government in any way.

"Only natural born citizens can contribute to campaigns".....

Now you want it!

What the F?

When you Liberals Hypocrites had Clinton you didn't mind him taking contributions from the Chinese, or Buddist monks (where did they get the money they vow to a life of poverty)

28: Bad idea. the super majorities required saved us from even greater damage. Every time you have a grid lock in congress the taxpayer comes out ahead.
Supreme Court judges should get elected. Appointing them only insures they represent the political goals of the administration appointing them.
31: good idea. buying politicians should be illegal.

Not sure about the term limits proposition. Here in California, it has created a "Short-Timers Mindset" where the politicians know they're only going to be there for a couple of years, and after that, all the sh*t they do will be someone else's mess to clean up (See: Bush, George W.)

Therefore, they spend their time cozying up to whoever's got the biggest pocketbook, so that when they are termed out, they can sidle right into the cushy "consulting" jobs. And if you even start to try to outlaw gov't workers going into consulting on the side, you'll hear all the Rightwing Tools screeching about restraint of trade, communist red tape, blah de blah de blah.

Campaign finance restrictions are fine, though.

And oh yeah - to Tea Party Anonymous: strange that you should say that, as the Constitution contains nothing whatsoever within it to in ANY way restrict or control immigration. Quite the opposite, in fact. If we were to return to what the Tea Partiers SAY they want - that would mean throwing open the borders of the U.S. to a completely unregulated and uncontrolled wave of massive immigration.

That seems not to occur to them. Then again, they are a dimwitted bunch, who don't really think things through, or know much about history.

"Useful fools," indeed.

What's the objection to allowing naturalized citizens give money? Why limit just to natural born (after all, naturalized citizens can vote and run for office just not prez)? As long as it is limited to citizens and real persons seems fine to me.

I second what Prisoner No. 6 said about term limits in California.

There's little experience of how to get stuff done, leaving it to lobbyists and bureaucrats, as electeds play musical chairs raising money for their next office run.

Add

1) Change all voting days to Sunday. Enough with this stupid Tuesday tradition. No more absentee ballots. Unable to get to the voting booth, tough luck !

2) Balance budget amendment. Cut spending wherever you can !

3) Institute the draft. Professional soldiers are great but not affordable. Service should be 18 months and pay will be board + 400 dollars.
