Jim Rogers has a few ideas about 2009 and beyond

Anyone taking Chinese lessons?

Got commodities?

Rogers has a pretty clear view of things. I like his ideas.

He's correct.

The government's "solutions" to these problems are by nature hyperinflationary.

Crooks who should be in jail (or on the streets) are bailed out at tax-payer's expense, while the debt incurred is placed on the backs of future generations.

Obama is turning out to be the catalyst for extreme hyperinflation in this country.

Our government officials are making the same mistake as they did back in the early 1930's.

是的。

> Got commodities?

No. But I think many of our producers/exporters have got their commodities, along with piles of dollar-denominated debt planned to be serviced by future exports growth, and they don't seem very enthusiastic about their decisions atm.

What the f*ck is going on over there?

Got rubles?

Got propaganda?

Got the cold hard slap of reality heading your way?

The "Crisis". So far it fits the description of a business-led recession, but you must always keep in mind what the businesses are, and what the government is in Russia.

> Got rubles?

Well, I need some roubles (counterbalanced by a huge stash of USDs) in order to buy Russian stocks.
What the MSM doesn't say: the Central Bank may be pursuing a policy of devaluation but it's NOT inflationary for the first time in a decade. Money is very tight. Instructively, nominal wages of the so-called "office plankton" employees had to be slashed by 20-30%, and the Federal Baliffs Service (turned into a kind of government collection agency by financial lobbyists) may be working overtime to retrieve consumer loans.

> Got propaganda?

Lots of - but nowhere close to the Soviet propaganda.

> Got the cold hard slap of reality heading your way?

Yes and no. Unlike other victims of the boom/bust, a huge slice of the Russian population is still careful after the false starts of 1990s. We've had our share of subprime mortgagors - but we keep the largest under-the-mattress reserves.
This gives some hope that the recession will stay just that, and the depths of 1990s will not be revisited, unless, of course, the bureaucrats answer the provocative calls for help and screw up the things royally.

On another thread another SAer provided a little more detail to the comparison to the weimar republic and I thought it was pretty appropriate. I looked it up on wikpedia and below is my summarized interpretation and comparison to current day usa.

The weimar republic got hyperinflation because the govt printed money and gave it to people without their actually having created anything of value. So there was more money but less 'stuff' - hence, the devaluation of the money.

When germany defaulted on war reparations, France and Belgium took over one of germany's biggest industrial regions. But the german workers went on strike, stopped working, and the german government printed money to pay the striking workers even though they were not producing anything.

How is this like the US now?

$1T worth of money given to banks, aig, fannie, freddie, automakers even though they are not actually producing anything of value. More money chasing after less and less 'stuff'.

Watch for unemployment to continue to rise and unemployment benefits to get continually extended. More and more workers getting paid without contributing value or 'stuff'. Sound familiar?

Yes, I have exposure to commodities (gold and energy) through gdx and pbw. If I wasn't such an idiot and didn't have another 3rd of my portfolio tied up in a losing venture then I would also own DAG.

I just love to watch these "with it" guys being interviewed.

Rogers, like Buffet, give away nothing and pump their dogma to fit their own strategy.

Their egos are out to win the world at the expense of the little guys.

I'm surprised Buffett has'nt moved his money out of the country, like Rogers. Then again maybe Buffett did under the guise of his charities. And Gates with his African donations.

That's my mantra - the ultra wealthy are slowly moving money out of the USA to the next boom territory = Asia & Africa. Rogers is overt about it. The milking of the USA is over. The treasury did the ultra wealthy a favor by boosting the money supply for a while until the wealthy skip town and then the hammer will fall.

Call me paranoid, but all these technical explanations hide the real fact that govt is as crooked as the Governor of Illinois, and the payoffs to the politicians are coming home to roost.

Only gold will save you and Rogers doesnt want you and me to buy any so that he can convert all his money into the stuff before he is through. He is just as greedy as Madoff and his friends.

This guy ignores what caused this collaspe. Americas manufucturing base was dismantled and shipped to his precsious China. They made shit and sent it here. We had no money to buy and so the ponzi scheme began. Now our service economy is burning fast. It will burn fast because there is little of real substance there and nothing self perpetuating.

Jim protectionism or making things here is our peoples only chance. You bet on China, our new world order politicos are with you. That leaves our people f*cked. It remains to be seen if they will watch their children starve in silence so assholes children can take their place as gods in the new world order. Jim, kiss my ASS.

Magic popcicle out!

Wrong and wrong.

Rogers has talked about that over and over and protectionism doesn't solve anything it just protects weak companies like GM and Ford from making real competetive changes to their work culture and makes us all poorer in the process.

What makes you think a Chinese deserves less money for flipping hamburgers all day than an American deserves for flipping hamburgers all day?

Is the American more skilled at flipping the hamburger or does he have some kind of cultural advantage that makes his burger flipping more profitable for the company?

No, the America feels entitled to be payed more for flipping those burgers to support the sh*tty American hamburger industry you want to tax me and transfer my income to these American burger flippers?

The same thing applies to cars or anything else.

Why should I or anyone else be taxed to support some self-entitled factory workers? What if I don't even like hamburgers?

Lots of Chinese-made weapons available.

Your going to be starving to death like the illegals here and the Chinese. You dumdass day traders are truely vile. Global slavery was your only chance at achieving a standard of living that would require hard work and ingenuity. No hamburgrrs for dumbasses who think their laptop generates real wealth, Globaism is dead, go to China aqnd support your 2 doller a day pets. You have such a huge heart.

First of all, I don't know where you get the idea that I'm a "day trader". I'm not.

It's very simple moron. There is no free lunch. Protectionism is just the transfer of wealth from competitive industry to non-competitive industry.

Why should competitive US industries be forced to subsidize the un-competitive US industries via "protectionism"?

First off you are a day trader. Secend, fair trade is different from free trade. Trade policies of a government directly impact the national security and the health of the the nations economy its citezens. Both have been not only comprimized but destroyed by the corrupt whores we call polititians. Greedy fools like you are to stupid to understand the meaning of my words. All you understand is your own all consuming greed. The economic collaspe is almost worth watching all the fools like you get every last penny destroyed.

A government by the people for the people. What f*cking joke. Clowns like you will be hiding in holes when the people have had their fill of your corrupt bullshit. Not that you ever had any real power in your life personally.

Noodles-

Lots of anger from the blue collar workers toward the white collar workers...Well deserved I say.

Here's the sad part of it:

Most blue collar workers WERE tricked by the Right Wing, through use of stupid issues that don't matter in the end (Abortion/Homosexuals saying they're married/Anti-Marijuana agenda etc).

Now the rich are skipping town and the blue collars have no one to blame but whoever is left to feel their fury and panic.

Feel bad for both but in all honesty the white collar workers are useless like tits on a bull...Soft hands and no skills.

When it comes to a primal world the strong make it, the smart get eaten...Till things calm down and we begin the cycle again then the smart take over the reins of power and control again.

You have to soothe the unwash angry masses every now and then...Read the history of Rome till it's demise.

Either way blue or white they both bleed red and the time is coming for the riots to hit...Summer 2009 The Days of Fury begin.

When you look at the riot police in full black hard plastic tacticle gear whacking looters and gassing firebugs in Cali...Wave because it might be me :)

What's even worse is that liberals tricked the middle-class into thinking that Democrats were the party of the middle-class. Liberals like Hillary, Bill Gates and Bloomberg have lead the offshoring of good middle class jobs to asia and no one ever sees what they are doing.

Not impressed by what this guy had to say. It was mostly just a sales pitch for gold and other commodoties. Plus he told the same old lie told by all free-traders that the Hawley-Smoot tarriff bill caused the Great Depression.

Our economic system is based on growth. So if we want to keep on growing we must sell to China and emerging markets.

Unfortunately, that will be our downfall. Because as emerging markets expand and get wealthier, they will be consuming more and more of the world's energy. They will be using what we need to maintain our way of life and our growth.

The Captains of Industry all know this. Look, as an institutional portfolio manager, I've sat down with the top business people in every industry and I can tell you that in their view of the future, a middle class does not exist in the USA.

So unless there is a revolution, or a fight for European socialism, expect the USA to go the way of a typical South American country.

As long as Americans stay brainwashed and think they can get to to the top if they take on a little bit more debt, America is doomed.

Why do you think 1 or 2 million is not enough for these CEOs? They know that in this new world order, 100M or much more will be needed. They will need all the money they can get to protect themselves and bribe.

STOP FIGHTING. YOU'RE WASTING ENERGY.

It's not government doing this. It's the Captains of Industry holding a gun to your leaders' heads.

How do you expect someone paid 80K per year to stop someone making 300M per year?

Government is a puppet. WAKE UP AMERICA.

Captains of Industry have got you exactly where they want you: brainwashed and wrapped around their little finger.
