"None of the crops will grow. Most of the people will have died, and the rest of us will be cannibals"

"We'll have eight degrees -- we'll be eight degrees hotter in 10 -- not 10, but in 30 or 40 years. And basically none of the crops will grow. Most of the people will have died, and the rest of us will be cannibals.

"Civilization will have broken down. The few people left will be living in a failed state like Somalia or Sudan, and living conditions will be intolerable.

"The droughts will be so bad, there will be no more corn growing. It will -- not doing it is suicide. Just like dropping bombs on each other, nuclear weapons, is suicide. So, we've got to stop doing the two suicidal things, which are hanging on to our nuclear weapons, and then after that we've got to stabilize the population."

- Ted Turner on global warming, 2008

He's a crazy old mofo.

The latest indications indicate a cooling trend, not a warming one.

32 degrees in Los Angeles in December and subzero temperatures in the tidewater are not indicative of "warming."

Global warming is causing global cooling -- except when it's causing global warming!

We're all dooooomed!

Radical climate change theology is just secular wacko's equivalent of the fundamentalists' own wacky End Times Theology. There's a massive disaster coming, but our Messiah [insert politician here] will save us, if we only accept His Wisdom in our lives!

His langauge was not careful but he got it right on what we have to do.

Nuclear proliferation will suddenly make sense as soon as one these "I can use 5000 off-the-shelf centurfuge" countries actually uses one of these things. Environmental impact of the nuclear weapons going off was obvious when were melting sand in the South Pacific. One in a major city with lots to burn would create fallout that would be enourmous.

Overpopulation is number two. We know it is comming and though we may be thinking fruit flies the same math will apply to us all unless we think. It is hard to image that human beings cannot effect climate especially if our numbers double or triple.

Good ol' Ted, alway dependable for a weird-ass quote. I remember back in 1979 when they asked him about increasing the number of jobs for black people, Turner suggested adding harnesses to the mobile ICBM trailers and using black men to pull them between bunkers.

If his old man hadn't committed suicide and left him with money and something to do, today Turner probably would be running a Dodge dealership.

If you think this fear mongering old eugenicist quack who wants to kill off 80% of humanity is right Keith, why don't you begin with yourself. Turner is not completely crazy, he's 100% correct about green energy sources.

Instead of pumping billions each month into a failed automotive, banking as well as war machine, money needs to be invested in infrastructure for green energy sources, jobs created with decent wages and benefits - that last.

Not doing so IS suicide, and we're already seeing the effects of this across the globe.

Unfortunately, we should have been investing in cleaner energy years ago, but the money still being made on oil is too lucrative to pass up - hence more tax-payer money will be pumped into a failed war policy.

Now, we're really screwed because the age-old system of robbing Peter to pay Paul (private industry paying the wages of public service employees) is no longer working.

Here in HB I'm hearing more and more griping from the residents - people across all wage brackets are getting fed-up with the wasteful spending that is still occuring.

Wage cuts across our entire economy is the only way to resolve the problems we are facing - this also includes are beloved sports heros who are still getting million dollar a year contracts - where's this money coming from? - your children, and their children's children for decades to come.

The entire world could look like Haiti and even then there would be people still claiming, "The World's population is not a problem. The world can easily support billions and billions more." And if that fails, the fall back position is:"You only support world population control because you don't want more people of color in the world."

If the world increases in temperature the Northern regions will become fertile growing grounds for crops like corn where they have laid fallow for eons.

We are looking at billions of acres becoming crop ready.

Natural rain forests will emerge where desert once laid bare.

I'll agree that we should slow down on populating the world, just look at few of our friends to the south, 35 million in Mexico City, Extremely violent turf wars on the border.

I hope to god Obama takes this shit seriously. The Cantarell oil deposit in Mexico has been declining now for several years, that was their main piggy-bank to keep the natives from getting too restless.

I'm in central Texas and one of my best buddies is from Mexico city, he seems like a smart guy, no kids anyway, I'd sure hate to have to look at him as an enemy.

Really that shit going-on down there is going to transform this country whether you like it or not, it already has. Thats why I say Obama better not skate on this.

And if he goes liberal and lets them "in", be prepared for civil war my friends, I've seen the writing on the wall now for 20 years, if he turns pussy on this situation, we'll have to fight.

Ted Turner is so full of shit it's not even funny.

Ted is a person with publicly documented mental illness. I do not make fun of this but it is important that people know how terribly mentally ill he is. Go google it.

No one, not even the most extreme members of the global warming cult, would say the earth is going to warm 8 degrees in 30 or 40 years. Hell, the IPCC report -- shoddy research at best -- doesn't even say there's been a material warming of the earth!

Turner, Gore, etc. are all cut from the same cloth: the cloth of tyranny. There is an old saying: "Crisis is the rallying cry of tyrants". That is to say: manufacture a crisis so you can seize control and implement/force your laws on the people.

That's exactly who Ted and Al are.

Anonymous, thanks for your insight. But there is a huge difference between fundamentalist theology and global warming alarmism: one is based on science, and the other -- religion -- is pure unadulterated fantasy. One is based on evidence and the other on blind "faith." So perhaps Ted is overstating the danger, but to compare global warming study to flat-earth fundamentalist nonsense is silly.

But, thankfully, you don't get to make important decisions.

They can try to enhance their argument by altering the talking point terminology from "global warming" to "climate change", but one thing remains true. In order for a scientific proposal to rise above hypothesis its predictions must be consistent and reliable. That is to say, the "globe" has to "warm" on some predictable, reliable basis. It has not for two years now, and it is looking like it will not this year, either.

You can try to prove your point by saying, "Gee, look at how uncharacteristically cold it is - proof of Anthropogenic Global Warming!", but keep your eyes on the predictions made by the IPCC. They will all be wrong. They are already, wrong. It is proof of nothing.

Anonymous said...

Clumperton, please tell the stupids like me how global warming causes global cooling. I'd really like to understand your thought process here.

Wait, don't bother. I'll tell it to the blog for you. You see bloggers, there was a theory of global warming some years ago. Left-wing scientists from around the world, in order to promote their own research grants and a global government, got together and said that there is a trans-world problem of the earth warming. This problem needs to be studied with obscene amounts of money and a global government will be needed to control all the world's economic activity so as to reduce carbon - the cause of global warming.

Unfortunately for these tyrannical personalities (left wingers), there wasn't much evidence for global warming. They then went on to doctor the research with the famous hockey stick graph. Of course, just a little investigation proved this to be a fraud. No one could reproduce the hockey stick results. Over time it became quite evident to everyone that parts of the world were experiencing extreme cold and extreme snow. Hmmm, how to explain?

The scientists got together again and decided that it wasn't really global warming but global climate change that was happening. That is, increased amounts of carbon cause hotter AND colder temperatures. Hence, the change of the mantra in the recent past to climate change. This then, would allow the socialist, one world government scientists to account for any variation in weather and use them as PROOF of the evils of man's economic activity.

So, bloggers, if you were stumped as to how global warming can cause extreme cold and snow (like in china and many other parts of the world last year), now you know!

Clumperton is a leftist who is behind the times; he has not kept up with the sneaky change of his science leaders. They moved to global climate change a few years ago while he/she is still stuck on global warming, wrongly using this as the reason for unseasonably cold and snowy weather in parts of the world. That's why he's Clumperton and not a global warming scientist at the University Wisconsin/Madison raking in hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars in consulting and research fees every year!

There you have it, bloggers. The truth about global warming...opps, i mean global climate change.

I predict a warming trend in the US to begin in early Feb followed by a cooling trend that gets going in earnest during mid August. I also see a cooling trend for Australia during mid Feb. I have excellent long range weather forecasts based on current weather observations and trends that support this. So even though its colder in Michigan now than it was this time last year, I GUARANTEE it will get warmer, then cooler.
Have lots of children, they will enjoy the weather more than you do.

Anonymous said...

Keith, the research is not well done nor is it completely accurate. 30 years ago, global cooling was a concern. Now its global warming?? The odds of global warming affecting anyone who is on this planet today is smaller than GW Bush's intellect. At best, we are probably a few thousand years away from it being a real concern. In all likelihood, the world's temps will fluctuate (a lot). The earth has certainly been hotter than it is now in its history. IN addition, the past 10 years do in fact indicate a cooling trend. Why not just acknowledge some of what I said as being accurate instead of being so blatantly one sided?

Well, I do acknowledge overpopulation as the dominent factor in most of our problems.
Unfortunatly, stabilizing our population today would mean killing 300 000 people a day. A one child policy wouldn't do the trick, as population aging alone offsets the theoretical halving by generation.
But make no mistake, if we don't do that, and we most certainly won't, nature will.

NYT -- Old Man Winter, it turns out, is no friend of renewable energy.

This time of year, wind turbine blades ice up, biodiesel congeals in tanks and solar panels produce less power because there is not as much sun. And perhaps most irritating to the people who own them, the panels become covered with snow, rendering them useless even in bright winter sunshine.

So in regions where homeowners have long rolled their eyes at shoveling driveways, add another cold-weather chore: cleaning off the solar panels.

In January 2007, a bus stalled in the middle of the night on Interstate 70 in the Colorado mountains. The culprit was a 20 percent biodiesel blend that congealed in the freezing weather, according to John Jones, the transit director for the bus line, Summit Stage. (Biodiesel is a diesel substitute, typically made from vegetable oil, that is used to displace some fossil fuels.)

LA TIMES -- Michelle Gerdes of Long Beach just lost her job as a designer for a dinnerware manufacturer. Her husband, Steve, works for an air-conditioning company whose business is slowing. But that didn't stop the couple from buying $32,000 worth of photovoltaic panels that went up on their roof this month. The state rebate and a federal tax credit will reduce their out-of-pocket costs to about $17,000 -- a substantial saving but still a big chunk of change. "We decided to just go for it," said Michelle Gerdes, 44. "It's the right thing to do for the environment . . . and it will definitely increase the value of our house."

Look, it doesn't matter if the planet heats up and crops fry, or if the Atlantic Ocean's Gulf Stream suddenly throws the switch and Europe and the USA eastern seaboard suddenly are frozen. The results are similar if not the same. Population displacement and die off. I hate to think of the future for my children and grandchildren, but quite frankly, die off of human population will happen one way or another (probably disease), and all to the betterment of the rest of life on this beautiful planet. Despite the beauty humans are capable of they really have no more value than the other species to any but themselves. The self absorption and ego of humans to the exclusion of all other life is similar to the savage capitalist ecconomic system especially in the absolute surety of it's collapse.

Go over to peakoil.com and check out the threads on methane releases in the arctic. The arctic IS getting warmer, and there is a LOT of methane trapped up there. Methane is 100 times as powerful a greenhouse gas as carbon dioxide on a yearly basis. It's starting to release in levels that leave no doubt among non-deniers that we are in for some warming.

I disagree with Ted - there is no hope we will avoid this gently. The only thing I can think of that would derail the warming at all would be a nuclear winter.
