Flash back. Flash forward.

A scene from 1933, and coming soon to your town:

More than 150 police officers were called to the street as people gathered in crowds that would reach an estimated 4,000 to 6,000 by the end of a long day of protest and violence.

As police arrived, they were greeted by taunts, jeers and volleys of rocks, bricks, sticks and even kitchen utensils. The officers responded with nightsticks, tear gas and fire hoses. Four times during that day and night, the protesters were dispersed, only to re-form and battle again into the darkness.

"This is a crowd that won't scatter, a crowd that is strangely grim and determined," wrote James Steele in an account of the incident for The Nation magazine.

Strangely enough this article for the Financial Times posted last night didn't make it into the normal outlets this morning.

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/cbc200e6-0cda-11de-a555-0000779fd2ac.html?nclick_check=1

Essentially, Europe has decided to work seperately from the U.S. in trying to contain this financial delimma.

I'm all for minimizing spending a country doesn't have, but shouldn't they cooperate until the system is stabelized?

If Europe is as bad off as their numbers indicate, I'd think they need to work in conjunction with all nations to stem this decline, rather than draw a line in the sand.

As for protesting, I like the idea of sending a teabag to the White House to be delivered on April 1st.

I don't think you will ever see that in DC. If there was even a sniff of it Obama would announce another stimulus and hire another 300-400k people into government. Meanwhile in other states across the US I'm sure it will kick off.

On a recent thread a cop wrote a post about how the police are being trained for civil unrest.

Let me tell you something, Mr. Cop:
If you dare to try to force people back in place – these folks who have been held back by the same evil, wealthy, greedy machine that has had a stranglehold on this once-great nation for too long – be warned.

You will suddenly find yourself outnumbered, outgunned and outsmarted by the pissed-off populace. And there are many of us who, for various reasons, have it in for the police anyway, and wouldn’t mind taking a few of you out of the game.

If the SHTF and revolution does break out here, you may want to consider ditching your uniform and joining the populace. Use your skills to support the cause and help take this nation back – to return it to the people from who it has been stolen.

Got it?

They had more balls then. They remembered the Panic of 1907. There were probably people who could talk intelligently about the crash of 1873-76. They weren't afraid to take a blast from a firehose or a smash from a billy club in defence of what was right.

They were like black people in the 1950s.

But now they're white people in the 21st Century. What's on "Idol"? Wasn't it nice of the city government to put up a big-screen TV just down the street from where we're living in all those abandoned cars?

And remember people, all this happened back in the days when almost all people respected the police and government authority. People paid their bills, read and honored their contracts, and generally took their lumps when life handed them a down turn, even if through no fault of their own.

Now fast foreword to today.

1.300 million firearms in this country (Harry-homeowner, not military.)

2.Absolutely NO respect for "the man." "The man" has demonstrated he doesn't deserve it.

3.No personnel responsibility. "Anything bad happens to me, my fault, somebody else's fault, God's will, whatever, I'M getting a slime ball. You're picking on me and I'm not going to stand for it. See you in court!"

4.Pent up anger against the incompetent, corrupt establishment in DC, Wall Street, the state capitals, etc., is positively seething beneath the surface.

5. Not a day goes by that the news isn't reporting on a suicide/murder suicide (usually involving family members,) almost always related to the economy/business downturns. How much longer before someone comes to the realization: Hey, I'm not going to off myself. If I'm going to die, I'm going to die taking out the SOB's that are really responsible!"

The first eviction riot (some poor little old lady gets tossed this summer when it's nice and hot?) or the first time someone serving an eviction notice is gunned down on a front porch, and a firefight ensues between arriving officers and the "valiant/soon-to-be-martyred homeowner only trying to save his home," the $h*t will definitely hit the you know what.

Remember, the new world record attempt for falling dominoes only needs that first one to be pushed over to start.

Or, American Idol will go into 24/7 reruns on all channels, the sheeple are once again placated and happy, God is in his heaven, America is wonderful, and life goes on.

Back then, ordinary people had little or no stake in the stock market and many of them worked for people that actually owned the company and cared about their employees. But if things don't get fixed soon - the masses will go after the people that misappropriated the wealth in this country. We should be mad - very, very mad.

People who don't live or grow up here have no clue about real life here. The city is DEAD but parts of the metro are stable.

Our unemployment rate is now LOWER than bubblicious CA, NV, and FL.

The metro-area population has stayed flat for decades, no bubble = the bust doesn't sting as badly.

If you have a master's degree which I do as of last year or other technical specialization the income to median housing cost is very reasonable.

Wait until the "battle-hardened"* vets put all that training to use. They had it coming.

They knew it was coming and put plans in place years ago. Massive detention centers exist nationwide; an Army division is specifically tasked with domestic unrest.

I bet we eventually see heavy weaponry deployed against our own angry citizens.

PS Hey Bukko where were you Saterday night.

How nice of you to inquire about my social calendar, anonymous. I worked an evening shift last Saturday (that's how the word is spelled. It's not that hard to do. Spelling the days of the week properly is something that children learn in elementary school).

Last weekend was the Moomba Festival, named after a word in the local Aboriginal language for "fun in the water." On the way home, I took the 59 tram to the Flinders Street Railway station in the centre of downtown because I wanted to catch a look at the festival vibe.

That's why I bring this up, in response to what you surely meant as a polite social question.

Y'see, the mood in Australia at the moment is still one of fun. People are aware that an economic storm is coming, but life is still placid here. The autumn season has just begun (Fall begins March 1, not at the equinox, and Spring commences on the first of September -- odd timing, to my way of thinking) and people are in a gay mood. Throngs of folks on the Yarra River bridge, a bit of drinking but not binge-wildness... Just a happy bunch.

It's quite a contrast to the grim scene in Keith's historical photo, or the fear-stench I catch wafting from the U.S. Mate, my life is good here in the Lucky Country. I'm sorry to hear that your existence has all these shitty bits. That would explain a lot about your bitterness.

America seems to be sinking into dystopia. Did you ever read "A Clockwork Orange"? Not watch the movie, but read the book, which better captured the whole social scene of a society in violent decay. Time for a sequel: "A Clockwork America."

Anonymous said...

We live in a different world now. The respect for law enforcement is not there anymore. Even our elected officals don't like the police. Which just kills me. Read any legit book about shifts of power and the police and military are the first levels of support. Without them anything goes. The police have been de-fanged and the military is rife with gangbangers. America will grow to regret this shift in "culture".

I know every HPer fantasizes about taking up arms and fighting the power, but 99.9% of you are just keyboarders. You are fat, lazy and don't even own a gun. You don't have the slightest clue who the real enemey is.

There are Bad People out there and I am not talking about those shifty mortgage brokers. There are souless animals that walk this planet that fight everyday just to eat and fuck. You stand no match against them.

The police in this country have been so pussified that 80% of us are no match for them either.

You will watch as your home burns, your children are slaughtered and your women raped. Most of you will die on your knees begging for mercy, but none will be given. In your last breath you will apologize, but it will be too late.

You will be dead.

Those punks were there because of where you rent. When I was a kid we'd go to C-level neighborhoods. We'd steal more in an hour than kids should ever be allowed to handle!

On the other hand, if you move to Nordeast or the East Side, you don't want to have stuff in your truck at all. When I lived on the East Side I didn't bother to drive. It's another set of doors (car and garage) and/or windows for people to break into.

(Sigh) The boomers haven't saved anything! The average boomer has $50-60K. The average older boomer has less than a hundred grand. A basic Google search turns this stuff up. It isn't going up to a million average in 6 years.

Their net worth isn't much better. They aren't going to be selling their homes. Maybe their second homes for break-even.

Retiring in droves? Hardly. I know some who even say that they shouldn't be penalized for not thinking ahead about saving, and that there needs to be some kind of government program. That's what kind of entitlement thinking we're dealing with, and I'm hearing more of it.

I know a boomer who says it will take until she's in her 70s before she'll have $100k, but then the dolt thinks that hundred grand will last until she dies, of course at age 100 like all boomers will do! These are not thinking people. These are feeling people, who believe whatever it takes to help them feel like a winner.

So fake Bukko, you're admitting to being a thief? It sounds like you're proud of it, too. And you're bragging about it in response to a guy whose vehicle got ripped off. Sick. And I mean that in the old-fashioned way of "sick in the head," not the hip-hop way where "bad" is good.

Yet I bet you consider yourself a righteous guy, someone who's morally better than those liberals/socialists/gays/people who ripped off the system during the housing bubble. Do you see the dichotomy there, son? (If you don't know what "dichotomy" means, get out the dictionary. If you're going to pretend to be me, you need to have a better vocabulary.)

Pretending to be someone else is in keeping with a thief personality, that's for sure. You see, thieves are not as productive as honest people. They don't have enough skills or character to hold down jobs that produce lots of money, and they don't have enough intellect to produce lots of good ideas. So they have to be like leeches in some muddy jungle river, slipping up to a stronger creature and sucking on it a little.

But thieves do a poor job at their thieving. The bogus Bukko you created? It's a pale imitation of the real thing. To do it right, you're going to reprint all the stuff I wrote on my profile, or it will be obvious to anyone who looks that you're a fake. You'll also have to replicate the photo avatar. Are you up to it, fake Bukko? Do you have the technical skills?

Massive Wall Street PUMP & DUMP Leading to The BIG Crash and Burn to 4,000 or lower.

-----------------------

Totally spot on. Running a profit for the first two months is a complete lie, with the government's backing of course. Citi is a totally bankrupt company. Only through accounting gymnastics can they say they turned a profit the first two months. Watch, the third month they will lose $4 billion. Well, they told the truth for the first two months!

Also, notice how this week the Administration, GM, Citi, Larry Summers, etc. all started talking happy talk and confidence talk. It all started right after the market went up big because the banksters are going to get mark-to-market changed and the uptick rule restored. This may work to raise market a bit in the short run but this won't do anything in the long run.

If the assets of companies are worth shit, then all they will do is lie about they're worth...or what they think they're worth. Eventually, though it will come crashing down on them. Getting rid of M-to-M is a dumb, dumb idea. Boy, these banksters loved M-to-M on the way up but hate it on the way down.

We all knew there would be suckers' rallies driven by the collective energy from the banksters and politicians, so don't think you're missing out on anything. As continued bad news gets out about employment and consumer spending, the market will crash again.

Yes, the govt. will lie about the employment figures - they already did by revising recently the dec job loss figures from 533k to something over 700k - but eventually the realities of the economy will blow these lies away.

They are doing absolutely everything to sugar coat and lie to the American people. They think that if people don't read it in the papers or see it on TV then they won't know what's really happening. They are so dumb. All you have to do is talk to your next door neighbor or your friends.

Hell, I know three non-financial people making good six figure salaries who lost their jobs in the past three months. And another one making the same thinks he'll be gone by the end of the year.

These economists say that unemployment is a lagging indicator of how the economy is doing. They are up their assholes. It reflects the present economy and when you have massive job losses like we've had it portends even worse times ahead.

The govt. is lying everyday to you. Just look what they did with the "official" recession start date. Up until mid-November, we weren't even in a recession...officially. The govt. didn't say anything about it because of the election. Then, after the election, voila...there's been a recession since December 2007! And then they start talking about how this one should be over by June 2009 because recessions don't last more than 18 months.

EVERYTHING COMING OUT OF WASHINGTON IS A LIE. DON'T BELIEVE A WORD OF IT. NOTHING.
