Here's Ron Gettelfinger, President of the UAW. The man who is about to cost hundreds of thousands more their jobs and their futures.

This whole meltdown is just one big tragedy, but one that for the most part could have been avoided.

And one of the most evil forces at work, this year and for the past fifty years, has been the United Auto Workers.

The UAW is a profoundly corrupt and incompetent organization. One that has cost America millions and millions of jobs. One that promotes incompetence and inefficiency over all else. One that sucked the life out of its host. An organization that exists solely to destroy industries and destroy jobs.

The UAW is evil. About as evil as the NAR or the NAMB.

And it must now die.

Now.

The UAW must die.

And then, and only then, can we move on.

Thanks for playing Ron. Good luck defending what you did. In hell. And when you get there, say hi to your buddy Chris Dodd, OK?

Meanwhile, good luck to former UAW members, after the collapse. I think Toyota and Honda will be hiring. And making good cars in America that people actually want.

Good Luck collecting those pensions and medical care promises. You are toast, DEAD. Fucked, in a word.

Oh Yeah, new Chrysler owners (BUY AMERICAN imbeciles), Submit your warranty claims to President Barack BoJangles Obama c/o: White House, Washington, DC.

Good Luck. DIE U PIGS

Ron Paul is right! said...

Now thats more like it.

But unfortunately, your good buddy Obammy will give the UAW plenty of cheeze. Because the UAW IS the democratic party to its core.

They should rot, GM and the fed should tell the UAW to go fuck themselves on their pensions. Fuck 'em all I say! GM would come out lean and mean and kick Toyota's ass then. But again you watch, Obammy won't let that happen. He won't let the UAW die on the vine.

You can't have it both ways.

You can't have GM, Ford and Chrysler as healthy going concerns, and have them honor their UAW legacy commitments.

The parasite killed their host.

So, either you let them go bankrupt, and sweep away the liabilities, or you have the UAW cut their wages to what the competition is paying, and exchange their liabilities for stock, and cross their fingers the host can survive.

Obama will become a great president if he stands up to the unions, in order to save the industry.

He will be a failed president if he gives in.

We'll know soon. Today was a good day, have no doubt. It was a good, good day.

You really just need to get rid of two, Firefighters and Public Employees.

Firefighters have had their own Soprano-style Mafia far too long and are now actually busting out cities and towns with their ridiculous compensation and retirement demands. Let these wonder heroes compete for their jobs like everyone else - Privatize the Fire Function. It would be cheaper to let every burning house go down than let these grifters continue to have their way.

And Public Employees? What else can you say about these useless louts. Have you ever met ONE who could get a job at the same level (we have mexicans here doing the gardening and trash removal so those slots are taken by good, competent hard-working people usually)in private industry or that YOU would hire? (Bonus Answer, if YES to above, than why havent they or YOU done so?)

The cops are the Real Heroes and deserve a lot more than they get. Although when they go down in the line of duty like the 4 in Oakland, I will never sanction or agree why hundreds and thousands show up from all over the country with their equipment to attend the memorial services at unbelievably huge cost, as well as the hypocritical politicians who truth be known are indirectly responsible many times due to their failed policies and flawed thinking for the officers being injured or killed.

Bust the Fire Union. Privatize Fire. Eliminate Public Employees unions and have a level playing field FOR ALL AMERICANS.

The pitchforks are all sharpened up...

My state-Rhode Island--is also controlled and is in the process of being destroyed by its pubic unions. A state legislator tried to bury a public report about how the public unions are bankrupting the state with their bloated pensions. But it didn't matter. Even when the report was made public, the General Assembly just patched the state budget deficit with fed stimulus money and kept the fat pensions just the way they are. Nice.

How about a teeshirt based on your comment:

"Pubic Sector Unions: The Parasite has Finally killed the Host."

A nice picture of the public sector parasites biting and killing the taxpayers, and we got ourselves a nice protest teeshirt.

Not one public dime to uaw pensions. The unions would make slaves of the productive and not think anything of it. Thugs. UAW, vampires now looking for innocents to feed on. People who are struggling to survive. Tax payers are now their next victoms. Socialism truely sucks. Take from innocents and give to the corrupt who pay the socialist politicians to steal for them at gunpoint.

As much as I agree with Keefer that the Unions sucked these companies dry, they where not responsible for selecting particular designs.

That is why I selected ‘Management’ in your survey.

What really killed FORD, GM and Chrysler are the OIL companies who are board members who have OPEC in mind, not the consumer..

So goodbye big 3!

I agree that the unions were partly responsible for this mess. What really needs to be discussed is; where in America will people find good paying jobs?

Manufacturing was the last bastion where the average guy or gal can get a good paying job. Now, it is downright next to impossible. Also, white collar jobs (the one's that pay $70,000 plus) are being slowly outsourced. My sister in law worked for Chase in a division where you need strong math, finance and analytical skills (she got a MBA from Kellog Northwestern). She was making 150K plus a bonus. Well four years ago, they outsourced her high paying job to India. Now she is making 80K per year.

Look at what is happening and salaries in our country will take a huge hit as the good paying jobs will be outsourced to lower cost areas. Our country better figure something out.

Amen brother. In Rhode Island, to be a firefighter takes political pull. Yet once someone gets to be a firefighter thru politics, they pretend that no one else wanted to do the dirty job. Making things worse: RI firefighters are at the top of the heap for pay, vacation, benefits and shear numbers . Look it up. And then look up the number of skyscapers we have, the number of chemical plants we have, the population size, the number of other factors which affect the likelihood of major fires.

No correlation.

Politicans in Rhode Island use firefighter positions as currency to buy votes and obtain campaign contributions.

And just try to criticize a firefighter. Out come the references to 911, the "brothers" who died fighting a fire, the "brothers" who were permanently disabled at a young age (a typical disabled Rhode Island firefighter: a fat forty-year old fuck who strained his back from picking up the Hustler mag he dropped while sitting on the station house's toilet, etc.) Civil war veterans used this tactic to great affect to protect their bloated pensions. They called the tactic, "Waving the bloody shirt." Many an unwounded, undisabled civil war veteran was able to worm his way onto the disability rolls by this teary eyed tactic...

Rhode Island firefighters: the pampered princes of the state (Sound the bagpipes!)

So true. The "nation's heros" in my town spend their day working out at the gym, drinking lattes at Starbucks, rescuing cats from roof tops, shopping for their gay little gourmet meals they cook together and playing Nintendo.

Last weekend, my family and I witnessed a horrible rollover accident resulting in injuries. The fire station was 300 feet away. It took 15 minutes for these idiots to put down the Wii controls and get to the scene. By the time they arrived, bystanders had handled the first aid and were directing traffic.

Firefighters are by far the worst of the goverment leeches, riding that 9-11 "hero" wave as long as they can to support their parasitic fraternity.

More bullshit from the man who hath told and told. UAW exists, flawed as it may be, because of the management and government UNION against workers. I see no workers taking half a billion dollars home in the face of bankruptcy.

I'm thinking maybe there won't be any. No 'good paying' jobs. Just jobs. With salaries that just cover basic housing and living expenses. Basic. Does anyone here remember basic? No? Prepare to be reintroduced. It's a good thing though. Really. Basic is good for America. Time to get back to the basics of reality.

If you think American firefighters are bad you have got to see the Canadian ones.

The next worse public union is the ambulance drivers. They have been caught time and time again organizing their "sick" days so they can take turns coming in for emergency overtime.

Another favorite tactic is to go out and round up all the drunks and junkies and take them to the hospital emergency rooms. Of course the hospital will ignore them and treat legitimate patients first, however under provincial laws they cannot leave before their "patient" is admitted to the hospital. Neat trick, they tie up the ambulances to create overtime.

In the meantime the ambulence drivers phone the press and announce a "code red" for ambulance service. A code red means there is not enough EMT's available.

The next day city councils are debating the deplorably underfunded ambulance service and demand more money to be spent.

Divert attention from parasitic bankers who continue to scam the nation's wealth for themselves and steal the common man's 401k....CHECK

Divide and conquer the working masses......CHECK.

You people are funny. If any of you spent some time at a UAW plant you would meet thousands of wonderful, down to earth, hard working folks. You would have to look long and hard to find that evil UAW worker you portray. And you would not find anyone on the assembly floor making $100 an hour or the stupid $70 an hour the MSM throws around. The average pay for long-long term employees is less than $30 an hour, new hires start at low wages even you Honda lovers would approve of.

As for thier great benefits? Yeah F***'em, lets thow them out of jobs and pick up those health care costs ourselves. "Ourselves" being the tax payer that will pick up where 100 year old GM left off.

Why have retirement benefit contracts honored when we can just cancel them and have these evil folks live off us?

And if any of you really believe that GM, Chrysler and Ford cars are junk then you really are as dumb as a bag of rocks. They are actually crazy reliable.

You dummies act as if you have to perform driving maneuvers in your Toyotas as you deftly swerve in and out of the chicane of broken down American cars on your way to work.

Your neighbors who see a benefit and enjoy the pride of supporting US companies own and drive these cars every day. Look around you; they get in their American cars and drive to work every day and return home safely just like you do in your Honda. Get some perspective you boneheads.

Europe, Canda and Mexico are fighting to have our GM, Chrysler and Ford survive in their countries and keep the great jobs they provide there. Here in the their home nation we bag of rocks people cheer their pains and demand their demise.

Its as if you people want to join in a energetic round of singing "We suck, only foriegn companies deserve to survive".

The Gov. and bankers are happy to have the heat diverted, chumps.

I am only giving my perspective. Look at the four brothers in Oakland that we lost. Or the young deputy in North Carolina who responded to a man with a gun shooting and killing people. He engaged the shooter in the hallway and was shoot on his own leg. But he survived. Have a little bit of perspective before you sound off and NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER FORGET 9/11!!!!

Yeah, those dirty unions! They were the ones who pushed Hummers and SUVs onto the production lines, when management was saying "Let's build fuel-efficient cars to compete with the Japanese." Those f@cking unionised employees who pushed bogus paper at GMAC, and ran Ditech during the HELOC bubble. Why can't those union workers just DIE when they retire or get sick? What gives them the right to expect to live when they have diabetes or heart attacks or their backs hurt too much to work overtime?

Management should have all the power, and working people should just do as they're told and STFU about safety and overtime and meaningless crap like that. The bosses ALWAYS do what's best for the workers.

And Gettlefinger -- why didn't he just agree to have ALL union workers get paid minumum wage, instead of just letting new hires be paid half of what older workers get? Too bad he couldn't get GM's American factories be like the ones in Germany and South Korea, where there are no unions. Because in those countries, workers are paid bupkis, they don't have health care, and they don't stay alive for more than a year when they can no longer turn wrenches. That's how America should be!

And by the way, I'm writing today from Opposite-land. Keith, your solution would have Americans living like Chinese peasants. The sad thing is, you'll probably get your wish, because that's what the power structure wants.

I'm mechanic at a Toyota dealership. I have in the past worked at US maker dealerships.

Both build good cars. Actually they are more reliable than anything with that many moving parts has a right to be. We are now very, very spoiled when it comes to car quality.

As far as Toyota goes, they have a following in this country that is unbelievable. People are so passionate about these cars that they have for the most part lost perspective or the ability to be negative in any manner.

The Tundra is a perfect example. That truck was so very aweful when first introduced that it should have never survived to today. It had so many troubles both small and very large that had it been an American truck I bet it would have been exposed on 60 minutes, 20/20 and have been scorched into the collective conscience of all Americans as an example of how shitty US vehicles are.

Yet, because its a Toyota, the Tundra owners bravely took it on the chin. I'd be talking to a guy who was in for his third trip that month and second tranny and he'd be telling me how quiet the ride was or how much he liked the position of the radio knobs.

Loyal Toyota followers bailed Toyota out of that lemon and supported them long enough to eventually come out with the good truck they have now.

Not to even bother trying to defend the UAW or their tactics except to say that for the most part they were the not very smart dregs of middle America who found a way make a good living without going to the trouble of learning a productive skill. They road the gravy train until it crashed and now they are picking over the wreckage to see what they steal. They are scum and will be getting handouts. That is a given. Now it is just a matter of how much.

Get ready for 24/7 reports on CNN featuring Anderson Cooper being questionably sensitive while interviewing obese Americanos in Michigan who are crying about how unfair it all is and how THE GOVERNMENT, i.e. the tax paying productive members of society, should support them in the manner they have become accustomed to until they drink themselves to death. Just don't start talking crazy and mention retraining because that would imply they had training and skills to begin with and it would require them to make an effort to take responsibility for their lives and that is down right unAmericano.

So much for the former UAW "workers."

The management brain trust of Ford, Chrysler and GM are a bunch of criminals also. The obvious question is to try and name one decent car that has come out of Detroit in the past 40 years and yes that includes the Muscle Car years. Putting a big truck motor in a midsized sedan is not engineering genius, it is not how you make a good car, it is how an inbred gearhead in Alabama makes a bitchen hot rod.

When Japan started selling Toyota Corollas and Datsun 510s Detroit came up with the Pinto and the Vega. Detroit has always spent more on marketing than engineering and they believed if they shouted "Buy American" loud enough the sheep would buy whatever crap they had to sell. A prime example of the utter contempt the management of the big three had for their customers is the Ford Fairmont. The Fairmont was a boxy ugly piece of crap that Ford (tried) to sell from 1978-1983 to compete with Toyota Cressidas and Nissan Maximas. Not only didn't Ford at least try to make the Fairmont good looking but under the Eastern Bloc styling lurked the chassis and motor of a Ford Falcon which was a crappy, poorly engineered car in 1960 when it was first released. That level of greed, contempt and complacency is almost unbelievable. The UAW is not a parasite but a symbiote and the death of the US auto industry is a suicide.

Let them die. If this country needs an auto industry, if this country needs a manufacturing base, hell if it needs a banking system have the government stop propping up failed institutions, let them all die. Industry, as needed and if necessary will develop because smart, hard working people will make it happen.

The CA public union workers have the fattest pensions. After 30 years, 100% pension.

A quarter of them, mostly black, don't do shit at work. I mean nothing. They read a book, do their nails, gossip, take extra long lunches and breaks. And the state can't fire them. In state buildings, there are floors and offices dedicated to the workers who refuse to do anything. They are put in these rooms to simply stay out of everyone's way or they are so incompetent that their is no job they can handle. Some of these "losers" have the gall to sue the state because they get passed up for promotion.

"First responders"

What a joke name.

Generally when these fat, rolly-poly boys finally get around to putt-putt-putting up the road to the accident scene, the laypersons have already done the work. A few flying elbows, and a few chest-bumps later, and the first responders are in position to take the credit when the cameras arrive.

In my state, the fire fighters have annual closed door meetings to coordinate their vacation time to "ensure that there is minimum staffing to ensure the public safety." In fact, the fat boys meet to determine how best to schedule their vacations so as to maximize overtime opportunities.

Nice.

Unfortunately the average citizen tears up at the thought of firefighters, as if every one of these fat fucks climbed the towers on 911.

Even though my state is one state over from NYC, not a single firefighter in my state rushed off to NYC to help on 9-11. (When a local newspaper tried to get a local angle on 9-11 by profiling a local firefighter who went to NYC on 9-11, they had to drop the idea because they couldn't find one who went) And yet, guess who gets 9-11 off every year as a paid holiday.

My state's beloved firefighters.

Cops and firefighters are no more 'heroes' than teachers, nurses, doctors, or people who paint skyscrapers. These are paid jobs, not missions of mercy. People who enter high-stress professions do it for whatever makes them crave the adreneline rush. It doesn't make them saints, angels, or gods. These are professions worthy of respect perhaps, but gratitude? Save that for the real heroes, who perform acts of care and concern under dangerous conditions without the reward of payment or the need for adulation.

However, some of the reasons for my hate are: first, firefighters wave the bloody shirt whenever anyone questions their pay, their benefits etc.The fact that numerous other low-paying jobs are more dangerous, more stressful is ignored. And I hate them because they are the biggest bunch of bullshit artists going. THey play the PR game well. Like I said, when ever they have their annual meeting to coordinate vacation time, they play it as if they are trying to ensure that there is sufficient minimum staffing year-round. Bullshit! I have three friends who are firefighters and they admit that the meeting (closed door of course) is in order to coordinate vacations to maximize overtime opportunities. Budget deficits? Who cares. They're firefighters. They're the proud pampered princes of the cities and towns.

I am a manager is a state system that is unionized. For a long time I hated the union, now I merely dislike it. I have seen lazy, incompetent employees who, having survived their one-year probation, are unfireable. On the other hand, I have seen bad, pathological managers who were kept on and rewarded. Same thing.

Without unions, what counterbalance is there to management? A few years ago, I interviewed someone who worked at a supply company in the midwest that had implemented a system by Red Prairie. In essence, the people who loaded and unloaded trucks, and stored and retrieved stock in the warehouses were tethered by wireless network to a system that controlled and monitored their every action. Take 17 minutes instead of 15 to unload a truck? The system knew, and you would be talked to or dismiss. The interviewee prevailed in a question of whether workers should be off-clock as they waited for a truck to come it. It was like the concept of factory farms (or the Matrix) applied to humans.

We are living through the consequences of corporate greed, in which management screwed everyone for their own benefit. Without unions, what is the counterbalance? Are all of you members of the master class that you have such contempt for the plebes? If so, why are you bothered about the scam that is the bailout. Look in the mirror sometime, hypocrites.

Hah-ha-ha. Oh you firefighters. Always with the awkward attempts at PR. Always with the made-up stories to tug the hearts of the public. Always wave that bloody red shirt. It aint your blood and it aint even your shirt, but that don't matter. Just wave and wave and maybe the public won't notice the deception!

Just because some firefighter somewhere at sometime rescued somebody from some kind of a fire, does not make into heroes all firefighters. 99.9999 percent of firefighters spend their short working lives sitting on their fat asses planning on how to retire early on full disability based on a phoney soft tissue injury. And most of them do just that and start their own businesses where they complain about high taxes and the lack of work ethic in others.

And by the way, in the unlikely event that your story is true, I have this one question for ya: what does your buddy want in addition to his lifetime six figure income? A gold plated limo full of whore-supplied whores just for doing his fucking job?

"a buddy of mine was one of those lazy firemen types...till the day he walked into a burning building to save a poor elderly man."

I don't understand how you can be so for the Democratic Party and so against the common working man. Keith, you should switch your votes to Republicans because they all feel the same was as you. Bash the working man who is trying to get ahead. I never understand why people feel the need to claim what another person earns is too much. If a CEO does a damn good job, pay him a crapload. If he fails, send him packing with a middle finger.

Line workers have nothing but the strength of each other to bargain for pay and benefits. Companies will never tell you that you are worth more money. They will always say "We are letting the market decide the wages". Sadly, they ARE the market and thus they set the wages. How can a company pay the board of directors assloads of money of they have to pay the workers decent wages? That is why we here in the US earn 475+ times LESS than the CEO. Many countries out there don't get anywhere near that amount but our CEO's are all special and better than everyone else. Ours runs the businesses so well that the Government would never need to bail-out any company.

Why do so many of you feel angry towards us first responders? I have to admit, that my benefits are great (with two years on the job in a large American police department, I make $63,000 plus with court, overtime, working on my day off at the public transit agency, etc... I can make $85,000 to $90,000). Plus, I get about five weeks off per year.

I know that many people know all of the great benefits we receive. Thus they are jealous. I strongly believe that the workers of the world should unite and create good solid unions and FORCE the companies to SHARE with us, the workers. Don't hate on us first responders because of our awesome benefits, but create a strong union for yourself, for your neighbor, for your country and for the good of this world.

P.S.- Please, if you have constructive comments to make, then go ahead please do so. But don't make generic sweeping generalizations about us first responders.

I believe a hero is one that does a heroic act without any type of compensation. Firefighters get paid to do their job. Now if any citizen or even an off duty firefighter risked his/her life outside of getting compensated, that is a hero. An employed firefighter wouldn't be able to say "no" to fighting a fire. That's his job. Else he gets reprimanded or even fired. It's not based on heroism.

Why do people keep insisting that only Toyota and Honda make cars people "want?"

Chrysler was in third place for retail sales in the USA, ahead of Ford and Honda and just behind Toyota.

GM was #1 in retail sales.

All the bullshit about "nobody wants to buy US cars" annoys me. GM, Ford and Chrysler are three of the top four sellers in the country.

Repeating cliches rather than analyzing facts is beneath you, Keith.
