The pendulum swings

Too much government. Problem.

Too little government. Problem.

Those days are long gone. We are rapidly entering an era of federal government mandated behavior, thought control, speech control, economic servitude through taxation and regulation and the absolute loss of our rights as outlined in the constitution and bill of rights. If you speak up against this, then you are branded as a kook, extremist or criminal. The prophecies of the book of revelation are coming true. Just look around you at this country and the world.

When did we have too little government?? Help me out with that Queeferino.

Comment 1 = crazy.

This is a garden variety government implosion that happens to every nation from time to time. Anyone who thinks this is unique hasn't done a proper investigation.

What is unique is the globally coordinated fiscal stimulus as a response. Wowzers.

BHO is neither a devil or saint. He's just a guy trying to keep the nation together with chicken wire and hope.

Anon 12:21, you're a kook, extremist and perhaps a criminal. Let me find out if you're batsh*t crazy too: Yes or No - Is Obama the Antichrist?

The prophecies of the Book of Revelation aren't "coming true," buddy. Save your religious nonsense for Free Republic and the rest of the nutjob blogs.

Government set records for its expansion during the those Reagan years. Taxes were out of control. He allowed the SS fund to be borrowed. He ran up record debt at the time.

Reagan contributed to what we have today. The neo-cons were a strong force in his admin.

Greanspan - enough said.

What a mess he was. But he goes down in history as a hero.

Yeah, the prophesies, that's it. How dare they brand you as a kook?!

and it has been swinging the wrong direction for the last 17 years.

Anonymous said...

not only the wrong direction over the last 17 years but it is now accelerating!

I am afraid the pendulum is going come completely off its hook.

borkafatty aka the pig said...

It certainly does. It started swinging in the direction of the state in 1989. It's now time for it to swing back in the direction of the people. I bet that starts in 2013 when our benevolent dictator is righteously shown the door in disgrace and he is replaced with someone who understands the proper role of the Federal Government, as Mr. Reagan did.

Let me answer for Keith.

Since the creation of HP Keith wanted smaller gov. He followed Ron Paul. He made sense when he talked about the economy. Now that Keith watches Obama porn all the time, he just said that too little government is a problem. Keith went from being a more fiscally conservative smaller gov individual, to an Obama loving larger gov, fiscally stupid individual. Nuff said!

Government needs to get out of bedrooms and churches.

Government needs to regulate financial institutions and stock trades.

Government needs to eliminate the income tax.

Government has a role to play in some areas, and needs to get the f*ck out of other areas.

Hope that helps.

Stand Back.
Here's How the Big Boys Write:

"And I gave her space to repent of her fornication, and she repented not. . . Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they that repent of their deeds. . . . And I will kill her children with death. . .
-Revelation 2:21-23

I haven't heard much repenting lately. Beware.

THIS has been foretold.

Thus endeth the lesson...

The only people Ronald Reagan was for were the big corporations, the CEO's, and a few mega-rich people who wanted everyone else to pay more Social Security taxes to subsidize their tax cuts.

Wow, this one is bringing out the intellectual cream of the crop here. Nobody has mentioned Waco (Whacko?) yet though. Let's hear more from the Christian Taliban, I love this stuff.

Yep, still laughing. Your shamgod and Book of Fables is useless to me.

Boo! I'm the Anti-christ! Run back to your village and warn the others!

Ronald Reagan...B-movie actor, champion of the rich, protector of the corporate entities and mega-lobbies, guardian of innocent fetuses. Sean Hannity calls him "Daddy". The cons worship at his altar. Died of a disease that might have been cured if he hadn't been suckered by the pro-life bullies. Not much of a legacy, really.

Those that believe in government - what do you think government is composed of? Good people with good intentions serving the publics best interest? Control freak power grabbing criminals that serve special interest lobbyists, corporations and banks?

And what limits do you think should be placed on government - if any?

Too little government?

Is Keith ... Keith Olbermann?

Seriously, ask yourself "What is government?" What makes it unique?

Some people would say that it's elected. Well, lots of people are elected to non-goverment spots and lots of governments aren't elected.

Some people would say it's the size. But there are some governments smaller than Microsoft and many other companies.

Some would say that they are an authority. Well, that's getting closer, but there are many authorities. The people who define internet standards are authorities. The referee in a football game is an authority. My mom was an authority when I was growing up.

So what's the difference? One thing: FORCE.

Government is more or less a monopoly on force. By making that monopoly larger, we make it more enticing for corporations to need to control that force. And that's when that force becomes a force much different that we originally intended. The average citizen has no control of that force.

(Above is loosely stolen from "Why Government Doesn't Work" by Harry Browne)

No president has really made the government smaller. Reagan had his moments, even Clinton did. Overall, goverment always gets bigger. The pendulum does not really swing.

Until there is a revolution.

Reagan was in way over his head. That's why the Bush's good friends, the Hinkley's tried to murder him.

Hinckley's and the Bushes.

When Reagan entered office, unemployment was very high. Interest rates were high but there was still the worst inflation the country had ever experienced. We were in Stagflation and the military budget had been scaled way back even though regular people were being taxed at extremely high levels. Reagan introduced some of the largest tax cuts ever but was convinced that the military budget would need to be restored for a variety of reasons (Soviets, rampant growth of drug cartels in South America, etc.). A lot of social spending came down under the axe and the deficit grew because while growing the military, taxes were being cut. In the end, some would say that the gamble paid off. Taxes were lowered, the military was rebuilt, the alliance between the U.S. and G.B. was very strong, Soviet influence was diminished and for a while, the drug cartels in South America had their powers reduced. If you were a recipiant of some form of social program that had been supported by tax dollars, you suffered. If you were a regular working slob, you benefited by having more of your own money to spend on what you wanted. The military under Weinberger / Reagan became a viable job doing meaningful work. It wasn't perfect (none of them are) but the dude was re-elected in a landslide after his first term in spite of the gigantic turd football that Carter handed him in 1980. Go back and read up on what the state of the union was in 1978-1980 and you'll see what kind of a total clusterfuck the guy had to deal with when he took office. It is not unlike the situation Obama entered into when he took office.

Control freak power grabbing criminals that serve special interest lobbyists, corporations and banks? Yes. The former at the low end the latter at the upper end.

And what limits do you think should be placed on government - if any? That would be the Constitution of the United States of America.

Reagan never shrunk the size of government. The message was right on the money, but he never delivered. We haven't tried clearing government out of the way, and we never will.

Too many people relying on government is the problem.

Bingo.

Too bad there's nobody out there to defend the Constitution.

Ugh, now I'm confused as ever. My vote is to abolish government altogether. If enough people feel the same way and speak their minds (possibly riot), maybe the government will starting shrinking.

We need extremist government haters more than ever now. Think about it. You know I'm right.

Helps what?

Ya know, Keith, you're a likeable guy. You really are.
But your Nostradamus Complex is really pretty annoying.

Aside from all that, as you worship your new leader ad nauseum, you throw out:

"Government has a role to play in some areas, and needs to get the f*ck out of other areas."

Oh man...

never mind.

Feels like when I was back in high school, and a pretty good friend of mine got all weird and joined some cult-type thing. Very, very, very strange.

Sweet dreams, Keith.

Reagan delivered speeches that people wanted to hear. What did he do about inflation? Ship away jobs! That turned out great. Greanspan? That turned out great. Largest deficit ever recorded at the time. We're still paying for that. S&L crisis setup. The largest tax increase to date was his social security increase. Then he allowed it to be borrowed out. The credit bubble was blown to new heights.
