Let's be clear. The Democrats destroyed America. They allowed the debacle at Fannie and Freddie to go on and on, and they should be investigated

There should be investigations.

People should go to jail.

And Democrats especially should go to jail.

This economic crisis could have been avoided.

But no, the Democrats were on the take.

The Democratic Party failed America.

And as the months and years go on with no independent investigation, you'll gain in the certain knowledge that the REIC has bought and paid for your government. Especially the Democrats.

So what will it be Obama? More of the same from you and your corrupt party? Or will you demand an independent investigation and special prosecutor ASAP?

Ah, now there's the keith that we all came to know and love. I'm glad to see that I was not wrong about you.

While I think it is in all our best interests to support the new president, we must acknowledge that if he tries to do what's right he is going to meet with opposition from his own party.

We must shake the childish notion that one party is good and the other is bad.

We must even shake the childish notion that some people are good and some are bad. Some of these democrats were probably just misguided and thought they were doing the right thing. They probably said to themselves: what's wrong with accepting influence from lobbyists for doing the right thing?

The problem is that the influence of lobbyists cost congress their objectivity.

The lesson here is to focus on the issue, analyze the issue and make your mind up about that rather than following one party or the other regardless of the issue.

And for the love of your country please pass legislation to eliminate lobbyist influence.

i agree the Democrats are corrupt.

having said that, Bush fired Armando Falcon (the guy getting reemed by the Dems) at the behest of JP Morgan b/c he actually had the brains and balls to slam derivatives.

Falcon was replaced by James Lockhart, a complete and utter p*ssy.

Bah ha ha ha!

Do we live in the same country? That's the cornerstone of politics since the formation of political machines back in the 1800s.

Here's a blurb on Tammany Hall:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tammany_Hall

It's so silly to think that any new century is going to be radically different from the prior ones. Realize, the 20th century was America's peak in research and manufacturing prowess. MIT became the great "MIT", world center for science & engineering, during the 20th century, not before it when it was a lowly Sea Grant college at par with the Ag school.

So what does that say?.. it says that the reason for much of our sense of middle class propriety comes from a well off society, we weren't living in the Bowery with the Daniel Day Lewis's "Gang of New York" nor against the gunslingers in Clint Eastwood's "Good, Bad, & Ugly". We're used to a modern, hi-tech, efficient first world like infrastructure.

So what happens is that politicians start to confuse the issues by pointing at Laizze faire free trade (1800s) vs New Deal Socialism (see 1930s/40s) vs Carterisms (see LBJ '60s v/v late '70s), etc, etc, to eliminate the continuity between historic cycles.

As long as the personal-consumption train had lots of debt to fuel it, very few thought it through and warned of the disastrous after-effects.

This is one time you are wrong. It ain't about politics, a pony show at best.

What destroyed our Republic was the FED gaining control of our money in 1913 and Nixon closing the Gold window in 1971.

Anything outside of the control of money is merely polarized BS designed to make people look the other way while this stealth-theft is happening. It is this Ponzi-scheme that is now blowing up. Period.

Where were you guys when the Republicans were in charge of congress and the senate the last 10 years.

Of course Democrats were involved in this mess. But did you guys forget when the Democrats would sit in the House of Representatives complaining all FREAKING night and screaming that the REPUBLICANS would ignore them and do whatever they wanted, since they had majority. Ron Paul was the only one I remember from the Republican party. Keith, you seem to watch alot of C-SPAN. Did you suddenly get amnesia?

Did you guys forget when the Democrats would walk into the Senate and were told to walk out, since their input would not even count. Did you guys forget when the Democrats would not even show up as their votes wouldn't even FREAKING matter.

Keith, Paul E. Math, you are TWO huge loosers and you are the reason the US is full of incompetent and corrupt REPUBLICANS that do whatever they want.

For your reference I have included the senate breakdown since 1997. Loosers. And as far as I and all democrats are concernced, Leiberman was never a Democrat. He is a Republican in my book.

What good does it do in closing Guantanamo if there are still many other secret prisons spread around the world (i.e., Uzbekistan, Romania, Jordan, Egypt, etc). Business as usual.

Nice CIA mind control was applied on you, sheeple, by the shady government pulling the strings. The engineered financial crisis helped to get the mind control going and fund their coffers for more projects in pursue of a New World Order.

First they give you the terrible GWB, then comes the messianic savior to comfort you. But you have to totally give yourself up to the Messiah, helped by the hysteria on the media. MIND CONTROL

Even a Hitler's youth style movement has been created, by giving a cute name like "Obama's Movement for Change".

Fascism always works like that, initially they create a youth army that supposedly will do good deeds, then they keep escalating it to more evil purposes like green brigades, spying on the neighbor, confiscating guns, etc. Just like the Marines working with cops at DUI checpoints all over the country now. If you complain, they immediately tell you, "What's wrong with the Marines helping to get drunk drivers out of streets?" It's a good deed! Sure, soon enough you'll have Marines confiscating your guns, breaking your doors down, frisking you in the streets on the way to work. Fascim always start with "good deeds". It happened before folks, I'm not inventing anything as you can read about Mussolini, Mao, etc. Go ahead, get a book about this topic at your local library.

If you can't see what's going on right in front of your eyes, you're a total moron who knows nothing about history. GWB just passed the baton to your hero, as planned by the shady government pulling the strings. Your Messiah was the perfect salesman for them. Just look at how many campaign promises he backed away from already (i.e., voting for wiretapping bill, cabinet full of big wigs war mongers).

All that he's doing is cosmetic stuff, like closing Guatanamo while living the other secret prisons remain open. Abortion? They never cared about that either, as it's just another issue to divide people and to help their Eugenics project.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenics

Watch out because with so much support from the sheeple and help from their paid-for media, it's pedal-to-the-metal time.

Dny, do you see how your comment is exactly the kind of partisan vitriol that we should all be trying to get away from?

I understand what you're saying about how badly the republicans behaved in congress. That's no doubt true and inexcusable.

But that doesn't excuse maxine waters, barney frank, gregory meeks, arthur davis, etc. These congressmen (and woman) blocked necessary legislation and that was wrong. Yes, if all republican congresspeople had been allied they could have pushed it through but there are a lot of misguided or dishonest republicans that wouldn't go along with the legislation either.

To have been fair, this clip would have had soundbites from all the republicans who also argued that fannie and freddie were well-run institutions. And it would have show marcie kaptur (d) who is usually wise to the tricks of special interests.

On the other side, as guy n. cognito said, bush was wrong to fire falcon for doing his job in raising a red flag on derivatives.

Both parties are completely full of the misguided, incompetent and corrupt. But if we focus on the issues a little more and maintain vigilance over those in our own parties then we can defend ourselves against the influence of lobbyists and special interests.

Just because lobbyists and special interests are deeply and historically entrenched in american politics does not mean it must remain this way.

Anonymous said...

"First they give you the terrible GWB, then comes the messianic savior to comfort you. But you have to totally give yourself up to the Messiah, helped by the hysteria on the media."

All good points, however, I don't really believe that there's a mastermind. It's more a natural evolution that those at the top, manipulate those at the bottom. The fact that people fell for B.O., hook, line, and sinker, as anything other than a fill-in, with a few quaint party ideals, is the state of humanity for you.

Keith and Paul,

I agree with the last poster. ALL politicians destroyed this and probably all other countries as well. Seems like they all become corrupt once at the top.

Democrats deserve blaim for all the shit that's happening right now (we Democrats face up and blame whomever deserves blame).

But if you look closely, the REPUBLICANS are WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY more dangerous than any other party in the world. First off, they are mostly well off, middle income people. They are mostly white. They are mostly christian QUOTE RELIGIOUS UN-QUOTE. They hate any other race that's not white (in the hush hush). They hate the poor. And they think they are the CHOSEN ones. Did I mentioned that they are extremely racist. They don't want higher taxes (unless it's higher for the poor of course). They want tax brakes, just like the billions that the BUSH administration and REPUBLICAN senate quietly handed to them. Where were you Keith and Paul? Where were the Republicans??

Bastards.

And they talk about not giving anything for free to the poor (socialism). Fuck you republicans. I rather give free lunch to the poor than giving it to your rich friends.

But KEITH and PAUL E. MATH didn't complain a bit when BUSH was signing all those nice tax brakes to the rich. Not one bit. What's that called Keith and Paul, socialism for the white/rich/elite.

Stop hiding behind a curtain and face up.

Anonymous said...

Paul,

I agree with much of your opinions; however, Republicans were the leaders and were the ones that decided when a legislation was in our out. With exceptions of the ones the Democrats rejected many times, and for good reason.

What do you expect the Democrats do, when all the legislation Democrats were proposing was immediately thrown in the garbage by the Republicans, most of the times without even reading it, and Republicans laughed at it too? You sure should remember those times, it was not too long ago... Democrats retaliated when they could, be it right or wrong. As a matter of fact, I bet you any of us would do the same and reject any REPUBLICAN legislation at any given chance...

The Democrats are now the leadership party in the congress, and make no mistake, the individuals you name have no idea about the economy and what they are doing to fix it. But I have seen many actions from the Democrats that I never saw from the Republicans. They are embracing the other isle, and reaching out to Republicans. Never done during the Republican years. Never!!! They freaking mocked and laughed at Democrats with their "liberal this", "liberal that" retoric.

Frank, Pelosi and many other Democrats are just plain stupid and have no idea about economics and the issues that are killing the US economy. Obama himself will make tons of mistakes in terms of fixing the economy. Keith has a much better plan than the Democrats could put together to fix the economy. As Mish has suggested, how can you fix the economy by getting yourself in more debt?

Anyway, in comparison to the Republicans, Democrats are at least 10 times better.

re: It ain't about politics, a pony show at best.

Exactly! There's plenty of blame to go around for both parties but that misses the point. The third party involved is loving that we are blaming it on each other instead of focusing on them.
The people who's lobbyists fought for the leverage deregulations, that geared up to insane levels the CDOs and CDSs and other crap built on debt, these are the people that should be scrutinized and held accountable.

I think the time has come for everyone to lay their cards on the table and let's find out what's what. Just like the Madoff scandal has caused other scammers to bolt and run, we need to restore some accounting of value and limiting the ability of investors to blow-up the counterparty because they've made bets they can't cover.

This needs to be a system wide change from all parties- Democrat, Republican and Investor.

So true, I had dinner at a friend's house last night with a group of people. One gentleman who was a lawyer in Nigeria said "America has become just like Nigeria. Where people who break the law and profit handsomely simply are not asked to pay for their ill deeds. And if they are allowed to get away then it will only encourage even more bold and brazen acts of theft".

I hate to say it, but our country is indeed in the same league as Nigeria, Mexico, and other bananna republics.

There will be investigations and rumors of investigations.

Mostly, rumors of investigations.

It's all political theatre, anyway.

Leading Democrats are implicated in past, present and future taxpayer rip-off schemes.

For example, Nancy Pelosi's 'cozy' relationship with construction giants Bechtel and URS.

Hell, they probably WROTE the legislation for transportation infrastructure 'stimulus' projects.

Then, there's Reid's 'cozy' relationship with power plant builder Raytheon, which probably submitted THEIR list of 'preferred' stimulus projects.

The list of 'conflicted' members of congress goes on and on...

Let's hope the Obama team can find ways to expose/weed-out most of these shill bastards masquerading as 'public servants.'

The stench of government corruption/collusion is sickening...

The nomination of William Lynn as Deputy Secretary of Defense has placed Barack Obama under the burn of political heat just days into the presidency.

Having lobbied the government on behalf of the defense industry giant Raytheon, Lynn's appointment violates the newly-instituted ethics guidelines that the president applied to his staff shortly after taking office. Questioned about the transgression, the White House said Lynn was being granted a waiver.....

Freddie Mac may draw $35 bln more from Treasury

NEW YORK, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Freddie Mac (FRE.P), the second-largest provider of funding for U.S. home loans, on Friday said expected fourth-quarter losses may force it to draw up to $35 billion from the U.S. Treasury to maintain a positive net worth.

The estimated draw means Freddie Mac may post a loss exceeding the record $25.3 billion for the third quarter, which reduced shareholders' equity to a negative $13.8 billion.

Republicans, Democrats.....it doesn't matter. The damage is done. Regardless, I agree with the post above about the youth movements and incoming fascism and New World Order including the very frightening world of Eugenics.

Obama may look like the messiah but don't be fooled by all the hype. The powers that be have chosen a charismatic man to win over the sheeple. It will happen in baby steps as its happened before - Mussolini, mao, ... taking away right to own guns, etc so that it will be accepted with open arms by the masses; any drastic change to replace Capitalism with Socialism/Fascism would be rejected and people would riot in the streets.

Sidenote - there was an interesting show on cable about body language and speech. They highlighted celebrities and politicians including Obama. They said he speaks in a certain rhythm that makes people actually move to the "sound" of his words but they don't really "hear" what he's saying. I found this eyeopening and scary since I got sucked in to Obama's speeches as well. Almost like he has a hypnotic effect on the masses. Scary. I believe that's how Hitler sounded to Nazi Germany when their economy was in the toilet.

More Democrat-Republican blame game childish b.s. rubbish. When are you folks going to get it? It's a con.
First. Keith, how did the The Dems do it?
I love how the Republicans forget THEY have been in the power majority for decades. Remember Newt's Contract on America? The Repubilcan Bush Cheney administration? I know that was a long time ago --last week they finished their stint of EIGHT LONG YEARS of destruction of the USA.
Obama just took office last week I'm sure it's ALL his fault. The Democrats finally got control of Congress in '06. Did that change anything? Will Obama? The real story is both parties are the same puppets of the dementors of doom. Just good cop and bad cop personas they change out to keep the story interesting while they continue to destroy and rape our cherished nation and its citizenry. When will Americans quit fighting amongst themselves over childish issues while their way of life is being snuffed out? They like Americans to be slaves for trinkets. We'll both still be clueless Dems and Repubs standing in the same soup line if we don't get handle on this corruption problem.
Will at least a small majority of Americans snap out of this zombie stupor and say something!!! Tell your neighbor you are tired of what's going on in Washington, tell a family member you are tired of the assault on our precious Constitution, tell a coworker that we as a country are in deep financial trouble. The thieves and assassins have entered our homes already. Don't you see ? Are you just going to let them rob you and harm your family? Denial can be deadly. It is time for America to grow up. Each of us accountable for making change and holding criminals on all levels accountable for the damage they unleash on our society. Show your outrage! What has been going on is outrageous! It is time by all means for the investigation and prosecution of crimes perpetrated by any and ALL parties in order to clean up this corruption and societal rot. It is also time for party reform toward a TRUE multi-party system where people can vote FOR a candidate not for the lesser of two evils. And It's time at last for citizen involvement in making government accountable. If you don't make noise at your social level no change is going to happen. Period! It takes everyone to say hey, f you I'm sick of this bs. You are NOT going to do this to me or my family and community.
No more excuses! You get he government you deserve......
